2014 NFL Draft Small School Watchlist: Big Sky Conference

Special Contributor: Matthew Elder

As always the Big Sky conference is one to watch. Annually the Big Sky not only offers up some of the best teams and biggest games in the country but also the biggest potential draft prospects. With camps right around the corner we’ll start our conference previews in a conference that has sent dozens of players annually to the NFL.

Top Offensive Prospect: RB Zach Bauman – Northern Arizona
There could be lots of debate here with a talented playmaker like Denarius McGhee or physical OL like Danny Kistler to choose from but for me there is no doubt. I’ve watched Zach Bauman run since he was a Sophomore for the Lumberjacks and he’s been one of the most under the radar backs in the entire country. Blessed with size, balance, and power Bauman is a dangerous runner between the tackles and in the open field. He never seems to go down on first contact and always falls forward. Look for Bauman to make a name for himself all year long.

Top Defensive Prospect: OLB Jordan Tripp – Montana
Montana always seems to have somebody worth taking a look at and this year is no exception. Tripp is another players scouts have talked about for years in anticipation of his graduation. He’s got the size, athleticism, and strength to play in the NFL. He’s a downhill LB who seems to love contact and making plays. He’s got the athleticism to drop into coverage or come down off the edge and that versatility will be key when projecting him to the next level.
