17. Pittsburgh Steelers
Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington (SCOUTING REPORT)
The Steelers need youth and talent at the cornerback position in this draft. Add in Trufant’s demeanor and toughness and you have a natural fit here.
18. Dallas Cowboys
DJ Fluker, OT, Alabama (SCOUTING REPORT)
The Cowboys offensive line just isn’t good at all. Adding Fluker at right tackle is just a start. I’d expect the Cowboys to spend multiple picks on the offensive line this April.
19. New York Giants
Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State* (SCOUTING REPORT)
The Giants love drafting defensive linemen – especially ones with upside. Werner isn’t the athlete that Pierre-Paul is, but he still has the ability to get after the quarterback and play the run.
20. Chicago Bears
Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia (SCOUTING REPORT)
Brian Urlacher isn’t walking in that door. Ogletree has plenty of issues on and off the field, but he has athleticism to spare and the speed needed to upgrade the middle of the Bears defense.
21. Cincinnati Bengals
Jonathan Cyprien, SS, FIU (SCOUTING REPORT)
It’s no secret that the Bengals are targeting a safety. If they can’t land Vaccaro, they may “reach” a bit for Cyrpien here.
22. St. Louis Rams (via WAS)
Matt Elam, S, Florida* (SCOUTING REPORT)
Elam is a missile. I’d like him a lot more in the second round, but the Rams need to add some talent at safety following some of their FA losses. Eric Reid is another option here, as well as trading down and picking up even more picks.
23. Minnesota Vikings
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson (SCOUTING REPORT)
Hopkins isn’t as flashy as some of the Tennessee receivers, but he catches the ball and runs precise routes. He will help make Christian Ponder a better quarterback.
24. Indianapolis Colts
Datone Jones, DE, UCLA (SCOUTING REPORT)
Jones is the perfect fit for that Colts need to do. A pass-rusher that can play both inside and outside, Jones is a football junkie that pick up where Dwight Freeney left off.
25. Minnesota Vikings (via SEA)
Xavier Rhodes, CB/S, Florida State (SCOUTING NOTES)
The Vikings just picked up one threat, now they need to cover other teams’ threats. Rhodes is a big corner that could transition to safety if needed.
26. Green Bay Packers
Jarvis Jones, OLB/ILB, Georgia (SCOUTING REPORT)
I’m not a huge Jones fan, but if any team can do something with him, it is Green Bay. Clay Matthews, Nick Perry and Jones would be pretty interesting.
27. Houston Texans
Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State (SCOUTING REPORT)
Carradine is a top-ten talent that just happened to injure his knee late in the season. A top NFL team will get a shot at him and turn him into a star as soon as he is 100%.
28. Denver Broncos
Eric Reid, FS, LSU* (SCOUTING REPORT)
Mike Adams and Rahim Moore aren’t inspiring much confidence in Denver this off-season. Adding Reid gives the Broncos another option covering a deep half that has the ability to buzz down into the box and take on running backs in the hole.
29. New England Patriots
Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee (SCOUTING REPORT)
Adding Hunter to Amendola, Jones and Edelman is just what the Patriots need after losing Emmanuel Sanders back to the Steelers. At 6’4″ and running a 4.44 forty, Hunter is the deep threat that the Patriots need, but he is quite raw. I’d like this pick a lot better if the Patriots traded down into the low 30’s – think Philadelphia – and landed a 4th or 5th round pick as well.
There are a host of defensive backs available here as well, but I truly think the Patriots might be set at the position as Alfonzo Dennard is good to go. Defensive and offensive line are also in play here.
30. Atlanta Falcons
Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State (SCOUTING REPORT)
The Falcons don’t have a glaring need here, but Brown might be too good of a football player to pass up here. He can play both Will and Mike, playing bigger than his actual listed size.
31. San Francisco 49ers
Sylvester Williams, DT/DE, North Carolina (SCOUTING REPORT)
With the picks that they have and the roster in place, the 49ers can do whatever they want. Williams is a talented player that will blossom into a terror with Coach Harbaugh getting after him.
32. Baltimore Ravens
Kevin Minter, LB, LSU (SCOUTING NOTES)
The Ravens need linebacker and Te’o and Minter are the top ones available here. I think Ozzie will go with the more mentally strong player – in this case, Minter.
