Patriots vs Rams: Game Day Timeline from London

NEPD Staff

At 4-3, the New England Patriots are facing a big game today against the 3-4 St. Louis Rams.

The Patriots are banged up and thin on the offensive line, but are facing a Rams team with similar issues. Read on for all the updates before today’s game.

9:30am – The Patriots have already ruled out six players for this afternoon, the biggest one being versatile tight end Aaron Hernandez who will be resting his ankle. Daniel Fells could see some additional time in his absence.

Starting safeties Steve Gregory and Pat Chung have also been ruled out, meaning Patriots fans should get used to seeing a mix Devin McCourty, Tavon Wilson, Nate Ebner and perhaps new addition Malcolm Williams who was signed from the practice squad after Ras-I Dowling was placed on season ending injured reserve.

9:45am – While the Patriots have ruled out six players, they have an additional dozen or so players on the injury list who will play today. Vince Wilfork was the latest addition with an undisclosed illness. One more player will be declared inactive prior to gametime.

9:50am – The Rams are not without injury issues themselves. Starting tackle Roger Saffold is out for the game and star receiver Danny Amendola is questionable. I would be very surprised to see Amendola play, but I’m sure he wants to get out there against the Patriots secondary.

10:00am – Big play receiver Chris Givens, one of our favorites here at NEPD in the 2012 NFL Draft, has been making a name for himself this year with multiple catches over 40 yards. New England will need to be cognizant of his location at all times and keep some safety help over the top of him. If the Patriots can get pressure on Sam Bradford, that might be the best defense against Givens.

10:05am – According to a report by Albert Breer, referenced here by PFT, Danny Amendola is going to try and play today and will participate in warm-ups. Having to keep track of Amendola as well as Givens would be a very tough task for the current Patriots secondary.

10:20am – The weather today at Wembley stadium is expected to be in the mid 40′s with light winds and a small chance of precipitation. Compare that with the impending Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the northeast and it sounds a lot better.

10:55am – We will keep you updated on all the inactives, however I’m not sure there will be much news from the Patriots. Each week teams must declare seven players inactive. Earlier in the week, the Patriots declared seven players OUT for today. Those players are TE Aaron Hernandez, DE Trevor Scott, S Steve Gregory, S Patrick Chung, LB Tracy White and RB Brandon Bolden. On top of that the team placed CB Ras-I Dowling on I.R and signed DB Malcolm Williams to the active roster. With all that said the Patriots will only have to declare ONE player inactive today,  the candidates are Williams, Jake Bequette, Justin Francis.

11:00am – ESPN’s Chris Mortensen just tweeted that Rams WR Danny Amendola will be INACTIVE vs. the Patriots today. This makes life a little easier for the Patriots beleaguered secondary.

11:35am – The final Patriots inactive is OG Logan Mankins. The Patriots inactive list is a collection of key players on both side of the ball. It appears the Patriots hope to survive this game and give these players an extra two weeks to heal. The Patiots need to find a way to overcome the injuries today.

The Rams official inactives are WR Danny Amendola, OT Rodger Saffold, OT Wayne Hunter, DT Matt Conrath, LB Mario Haggan, DE Eugene Sims and QB Austin Davis.

Patriots have to declare out one more player because Ras-I Dowling is now in IR, so don’t count as inactive
