The Patriots have a 1:00pm kickoff against the Tennessee Titans to start the 2012 NFL season. The game will be televised on CBS, called by Jim Nantz and Phil Simms.
We’ll be updating this post with all the injury news, inactives and anything else you need to know.
10:00am –According to the Patriots official Twitter feed, running back Shane Vereen, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and offensive lineman Nick McDonald have been ruled out of today’s action.
10:05am – Weather is supposed to be immaculate for the Patriots today, with temperatures in the 70’s and almost no wind.
10:25am – Mike Reiss on ESPN Boston has an interesting thought on the potential defensive gameplan.
One line of thinking is that Bill Belichick will throw the kitchen sink at second-year Titans quarterback Jake Locker, who is making his first career start. I wouldn’t be surprised if the message to players is the opposite and that the plan is actually more straightforward because of concern in overloading a young defense. This might be a bit harsh, but that line of thinking seems to be based more on reputation than recent results. When was the last time we saw a successful “throw the kitchen sink at a young quarterback” plan from Belichick that made anyone say “Wow”?
Locker was the first round pick of the Titans last year.
11:00am – According to Titans writer Jim Wyatt, Titans defensive lineman Sen’derrick Marks is out for today’s game.
11:03am – According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, Patriots offensive lineman Logan Mankins played all 16 games last year with a torn ACL. What a tough human being.
11:05am – According to Ian Rappaport, the Titans have been working on playing against the no-huddle offense. Matt Hasselbeck has been playing Tom Brady’s role on the scout team offense, even going so far as to wear UGG boots to work.
11:20am – Robert Kraft told the Herald’s Karen Guregian that he still has hope that Brian Waters will report.
11:35am – Jake Bequette, Justin Francis, Marcus Forston and Daniel Fells are the final inactives for the Patriots. Tight end Michael Hoomanawanui and wide receiver Greg Salas, both former Rams who have worked with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will be active.
With three defensive linemen being deactivated, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of them get placed on IR or released to open up a roster spot for a receiver or offensive lineman.
RB Javon Ringer and DT Sen’Derrick Marks are the biggest inactives for the Titans.
12:30pm – According to multiple reports, both Ryan Wendell and Dan Connolly have been seen warming up at the center position. Wendell is projected to start.
The starting lineup in warmups across the offensive line is Solder, Mankins, Wendell, Connolly, Vollmer.
12:40pm – Twenty minutes to kickoff. Enjoy the Patriots 2012 season! We’ll have instant notes right after the game and a film review tomorrow.
