2013 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Wisconsin vs Northern Iowa

Northern Iowa

#2 WR Terrell Sinkfield
-Lining up outside.
-Good initial effort on WR screen, but quit on the play.
-WR screen, good vision and burst.
-Fantastic leaping catch, great hands and body control on the sideline.
-Settles into soft part of zone, body catch, makes the first man miss and accelerates for the first down.
-Tips off his routes a bit, quick enough to get away with it at this level.
-Makes the catch in traffic, hangs on after big hit.
-Excellent grab, layed out and snagged the ball with his hands.

Overview: Sinkfield has some talent, speed, and a great catching radius, but he needs to clean up his route-running to succeed at the next level. His screen and hitch game is great, but he tends to round and tip some of his routes.

#28 CB J.J. Swain
-Lining up as both field and boundary corner, right side – also seeing time on special teams.
-Looks pretty small, listed at only 170 pounds – still willing to throw his body around.
-Squares up Montee Ball, but is just too small, ran over by the RB.
-Throws his body into the fullback, able to get him out of bounds.
-Sidesteps block on WR screen, very strong open field tackle.
-Shoots the C-gap and assists on tackle for loss.

Overview: Swain is tiny, but he never shied away from contact or his run duties. Wasn’t targeted much in the passing game, would like to see him again this year.

  1. Stephen S says:

1 Who is the better prospect Travis Frederick or Ricky Wagner
2 Which position is of greater need
3 Which player would you select/draft given the choice

    • NEPD says:

1 – Wagner, but only because he is a tackle. Frederick is the better football player in my opinion.

      2 – I’d go with G/C.

3 – Frederick, no doubt. Can play all three interior positions well.
