The fate of Tavon Wilson was instantly changed with the writing of his name on a draft card by New England Patriots staff at the 2012 NFL Draft. He was instantly tied to the likes of Stevan Ridley, Sebastian Vollmer, Logan Mankins and Richard Seymour – players who were instantly panned as “reaches” by many fans, experts and media members.

Will Wilson join the names above or will he enter into the realm of Terrence Wheatley, Darius Butler and other second round picks who couldn’t make it in Foxborough.

Wilson, selected with the 48th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, brings a lot of versatility to the Patriots defensive backfield.

This pre-season and at training camp, expect Wilson to see time at both strong and free safety. I also expect him to line up on the slot and be a big contributor on special teams, where he could make his biggest impact as a rookie.

By the bye week, don’t be surprised if Wilson is battling veterans like Steve Gregory for a spot in the starting lineup.

Wilson signed a four year deal with the Patriots which includes a $1.51 million signing bonus. Wilson’s salaries are slotted at $390k, $582k, $773k and $965k.

Could be the next Eugene Wilson, but then again he had Rodney next to him.

I miss the days when we had rodney. He was an absolute menace on the field. Hopefully Chung can step up this year and stay healthy. He’s got potential, he just gets injured to much.

I don’t really blame BB for trying on this kid. There were no good FS’s in this draft, and while he didn’t have a ton of picks, he adressed most oft the Patriots needs either through the draft or FA. Still worried about devensive backs though. If McCourty doesn’t bounce back, pats are screwed. Can’t count on Ras-I Dowling to play more than a few games.

I hope BB is right about this kid.
