2012 NFL Draft: Patriots Trade Back In Round Two

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

The New England Patriots have traded the 62nd pick to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for 3rd round (90) and 5th round (163) selections.

Picking up some extra picks is key after trading their 3rd and 4th round selections to move up for Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower.

This was not a smart move. Another team traded back at 67 and got much better value. No one’s going to remember this trade down, but it’s another reason why the second round is where the wheels came off.

I am very disappointed with the way the patriots drafted in the 2nd day. You mean to tell me that there was no alternative pick for Tavon Wilson at C/S? Have it be a reach in the 4th round, not the second round. They must have really fallen in love with this player to pick him so high. I think BB likes to show his arrogance that he knows more than everybody else. Bill, you’re not right all the time and this second rounder could have been made later or you could find another safety that had comparible skills later. I also know that we have to wait and see them play before judging if it’s a bad pick or not.

Bequette is a tough overacheiver and the whole draft has improved defense greatly tough athletic guys that produce. For fifth round pick I like following players Tauren Poole,Chris Rainey,Keenan Robinson Josh Norman,Andrew Datko and Lucas Nix.Great job BB and Staff.I am looking forward to new season already.

  4. Josh says:

I hope they turn that 5th rounder into a trade with Dallas for mike Jenkins and make up for the Wilson pick

  5. Jim R says:

Could of had TAVON in the 5th

    • Ralph says:

Tavon is the only true FS in the draft, the reaction to that is that he would get overvalued. it was either draft him or lose him, plus the crappy coaching he got at Illinois, he will probably get a lot better.

  6. Smarty says:

A nice move to add another body and address issues the Pats think need some competition.

With only 5 picks next year, are the Pats thinking of how they can collect more picks for 2013?

  7. Dano S says:

Maybe these three picks arethe new McGinest,Bruschi and Harrison.
Nice Trade.Great value for third round pick would be Billy Winn,Chris Givens,Chris Polk,Nigel Bradham and Josh Norman.
