With the 197th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Patriots have selected Nate Ebner (DB, Ohio State). Read on to read about Ebner’s incredible pro day performance.
Ebner was primarily a special teams player at Ohio State, as he only played a few snaps on actual defense. He only played rugby in high school and was an award-winning member of the Ohio State rugby team.
After measuring in at 6-0/202, Ebner had an amazing pro day performance at Ohio State. He ran a 4.55 40-yard dash, put up 23 reps on the bench press, showed off a 39″ vertical, ran a 4.04 in the shuttle and impressed everyone with an elite 6.59 3-cone time.
Ebner will immediately be considered a favorite for special teams play with New England. Ebner had this to say earlier this year about playing in the NFL:
I’m giving football my 100 percent. I don’t want to say, ‘If I wasn’t messing around with rugby, what would have happened?’ It’s football all the way, and if that doesn’t work out, I’m definitely playing rugby somewhere if I’m not playing football. But I’m going to be hitting people with my body as long as it can take it. And rugby’s too fun to not play if I’m not playing football.”
Here is a video of Ebner playing rugby.
In other news, it looks like the draft trade streak with the Eagles might have ended, unless the Patriots and Philadelphia can pull off a trade in the 7th round.
