Patriots Hold Workout With DE/OLB Ryan Davis

Ryan Davis NFL Draft

Could Ryan Davis be the Markell Carter of 2012?

According to Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated, the Patriots held a private workout with small-school stud Ryan Davis (DE/OLB, Bethune Cookman).

More on Davis after the jump – you can get the full list of 2012 Patriots Draft Contacts here.

Our resident small-school expert, Matthew Elder of BuffaloBillsDraft.com, had this to say about Davis.

Davis is a pass rush specialist who uses good snap anticipation and burst off the ball to beat the OT. He displayed a nice bull rush in the HBCU Bowl but will need to continue to work on getting stronger and using proper technique if he hopes to maintain its effectiveness

Davis totaled 21.5 tackles for loss in 2011, including 12 sacks. Davis had five other quarterback hits, three pass breakups and was in on 65 total tackles.

With question marks surrounding the future of Jermaine Cunningham and Markell Carter only earning accolades on the practice field thus far, there is certainly a need for some talented outside linebackers to join the squad in 2012. If the Patriots find themselves with some late-round picks due to draft day trades, Davis could be a guy they choose to develop.

Davis is currently in our Top 15 DE/OLB prospects.

  1. he’s a 5-7 rd prospect…yet hes in your guys’ top 15. doesnt speak too well about this years DE/OLB class. this defense and the patriots way of drafting can be so damn frustrating for us fans.

  2. DWE 2012 says:

Constant developmental guy’s VS a playmaker inbetween some development guy’s…….Reason for the original 3 out of 4 year’s only, instead of further changing that to 4 of 5 or even 5 of 6.
