Patriots Hold Private Workout with Micah Pellerin (CB, Hampton)

According to a source close with the player, the Patriots held a private workout with Hampton cornerback Micah Pellerin earlier this month. Patriots defensive back coach Josh Boyer reportedly led the workout.

More on Pellerin after the jump.

Our friend Matthew Elder, lead editor at our sister site BuffaloBillsDraft.com, had this to say about Pellerin.

“His name has been whispered around for a while due to his size and speed combination. He has smooth hips that allow him to transition easily from his back pedal to his sprint.”

Pellerin measured in at just over 6’0″ and weighed 194 pounds at the combine. That size, combined with his 4.47 speed makes him an attractive target in the 3rd-5th rounds for teams needing depth at cornerback. From the little we’ve seen of Pellerin on tape, his coverage skills seem very good, especially playing man. I wasn’t a fan of him in press though.

Overall, with his quality play at the Shrine Game and decent workout numbers, I think Pellerin would be a very nice addition to the Patriots defensive backfield. Having an additional big cornerback to play with Ras-I Dowling gives the Patriots a little more flexibility, especially in the red zone.
