NEPD On Location: BSN Collegiate Showcase

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

On Friday, I’ll be traveling to Akron, Ohio for the Beyond Sports Network Collegiate Showcase – think of it as the NFL Combine for small-schools.

Matthew Elder (of BuffaloBillsDraft.com), who was on the selection committee for the event, and I will be covering the prospects – taking video and evaluating some of the talent on display, along with NFL, CFL and AFL teams.

Here is Matt’s take on the best prospect in attendance:

“Ive watched more QB film this year than I ever have before thanks to this event and I think David LeGree is (QB, Hampton) easily the biggest sleeper in this draft. He has size, athleticism, and absolutely cannon for an arm. He won’t be ready Day 1 but if you can give him a year or two to sit and learn…well let’s just say watch out.”

We’ll have thoughts on LeGree, as well as a few small-school DE/OLB types from Akron starting tomorrow. Here is what the players will be doing.

From the BSN Press Release:

The 2012 BSN Collegiate Showcase will take place March 9th – 11th, 2012, inside the Stile Athletic Field House on the campus of the University of Akron, in Akron OH. The Planning for this event began several months ago with negotiations between the executive staff of BSN and The University of Akron, with the goal of bringing a unique event to football athletes from the FCS, D-II, D-III, and NAIA branches of college football.

This is a three day event, beginning on Friday, March 9th and concluding on Sunday, March 11th, taking place inside the Stile Field House on the University of Akron campus. We will be inviting the best players from around the country at the FCS (formerly Division 1-AA), Division II, Division III and NAIA levels to compete against each other. The weekend will include a testing combine, position drills, 7-on-7 drills, and two fully padded football games.

Thanks to the NEPD staff. I love this kind of reporting (I guess it’s the rooting for the underdog in me).
