NEPD Mailbag: Too Long For Twitter

@DaveBiscella asks:
@DougKyed i think when all is said and done, hernandez will have had a better overall career than Gronk. thoughts?

If Gronk stays healthy, and I’m talking more about his back than his ankle, I think Gronk can go down as the greatest TE ever. I love Hernandez more than anyone, but he still only offers half of what Gronk does since Gronk’s one of the best blocking TEs in the league.

It’s certainly possible that Hernandez piles up more yards and stats though. There’s a very good chance he’ll be used at WR even more than he was before under Josh McDaniels.

Both players are unbelievable and it’s hard to choose sides, but with Gronk’s blocking ability, it’s tough to say Hernandez will have the better overall career.

@Art_Jones_ asks:
@DougKyed Do you Think Stephen Hill would be a good fit in the New England Offense?

Well, he’s certainly the Patriots type of WR, raw, athletic, big, etc. And he also fits what Josh McDaniels saw in Demaryius Thomas in Denver.

I want the Patriots to move away from this type of player though. Brady’s probably got about 3-5 more years left in him and I’d rather see a more polished player brought in with less upside, than a guy like Hill.

He could very well become a breakout star from this draft, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take.

@Ethanhamm asks:
@DougKyed Are there any players that many people have in the top two rounds but you would consider undraftable?

Vontaze Burfict and Alshon Jeffery would likely be the closest for me. I know Burfict has some issues, and we’ll see how many of those crop up at interviews in the combine. But as I said on Twitter last night,  he definitely offers enough as an OLB in a 3-4 or 4-3 to be able contribute in the NFL.

If Jeffery really is as slow and out of shape as he was 5 weeks ago in Indy, that would be a giant red flag for me. I doubt he does, but if he runs a 4.8 40, he’s out of the draft for me. That’s a player that’s either too slow, or just doesn’t care enough.

@Titan2400 asks:
@DougKyed Who will be the best LB drafted in the middle rounds this year?

My favorite guys are Keenan Robinson and Mychal Kendricks. Robinson offers a lot of versatility as either an inside guy, an SLB or even an edge rusher. He impressed me down at the senior bowl and it looked like he was still adding some aspects to his game.

Kendricks is a little undersized, he might measure in at less than 6’0”, but he’s always around the ball and he’s got some great instincts. I could see him being a very solid MLB.

    Hey Doug,

    How would someone go about acquiring any form of game tape on these prospects???

    I’d love to see more snaps from these prospects, I know you guys do a great job, rarely do I disagree with your reports or even your mocks but it would be great to get some tape if that’s possible

    Any suggestions?
