Day three of the Senior Bowl practices have concluded here and I just got back from the South practice. I took a look at the defense today for the south and here are some of my practice notes.
-UNC LB Zach Brown showed off some plus hands and coverage skills. He’s a smaller linebacker around 230 pounds, but he’s going to show off some impressive speed at the combine and almost covers like a safety. If a team is looking for an answer to cover a speedy TE, Brown might be their guy. Brown’s also a very solid run defender who I believe will be able to get east and west to make plays.
-Nigel Bradham, a LB out of Florida State looks really stiff out there. He’s another tampa-2 style player that doesn’t flash nearly the same kind of skills as Zach Brown or LaVonte David.
-Miami LB Sean Spence is yet another smaller linebacker, Spence legitimately looks like a free safety out there. I can’t see him being taken in the first three rounds, but he could be a nice versatile player for a team in the later rounds.
-Keenan Robinson, LB out of Texas had a great practice today. He played all three linebacker positions down in Texas and flashed some pass rushing skills today. It looks like he’s developed a really nice swim move and there wasn’t a single blocking back that could touch him today.
-Brandon Boykin, CB out of Georgia has had a great week down here. He’s been a poor man’s Janoris Jenkins. He gets really physical at the line of scrimmage and has really excelled against some of the bigger WRs down here like Dwight Jones and Jeff Fuller.
-Janoris Jenkins, CB out of North Alabama really continues to impress down here. I can’t say enough good things about him. If you were to find a flaw in his game, it might be that he can get turned around at times on deeper routes, but he’s a really physical corner who pro WRs will have a very tough time getting out on their routes against.
-Brandon Taylor, S, LSU had a nice practice today as well. He’s quick to react to the ball and looks good in his back pedal.
