This year’s Cotton Bowl is perhaps one of the more underrated bowl games of the 2011/2012 season, featuring a scrappy Kansas State team and a just not good enough for the National Championship SEC team.
Today I’ll preview the three big Arkansas receiving prospects:
Jarius Wright, WR, Arkansas
The best and fastest of the three WR prospects, but also the smallest at just 5-9 or 5-10 and 180 pounds. Can line up outside or in the slot, he had a great 2011 season with 63 receptions for 1029 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’ll likely be a slot receiver at the next level, but could be great in that role. Sharp route runner, but can be lazy with his hands.
Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas
Another fast, shifty WR, he’s the most versatile of the bunch. Caught 49 passes for 630 yards this year for three touchdowns, but also had impressive sophomore and junior seasons. Returned 28 punts for 259 yards and three touchdowns and perhaps one of the best youtube clips of the year with a punt return for a touchdown against Tennessee. Will likely see most of his offensive snaps come from the slot or in gimmick packages, but also has huge value in the return game. Still raw with his routes and hands, but can be explosive after the catch.
Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas
Has the best size off all three at 6’3” 217 pounds but lacks elite speed. Will be a nice possession type receiver who could create some mismatches with his size. Had a down 2011 season after tearing his patellar tendon in 2010, missed games with injuries and didn’t flash the same kind of potential he showed in 2009 and 2010.
Other Arkansas prospects to watch:
Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas
Jake Bequette, DE, Arkansas
Jerry Franklin, ILB, Arkansas
Tramain Thomas, S, Arkansas
Kansas State prospects to watch:
Manasi Foketi, G, Kansas State
Tysyn Hartman, S, Kansas State
Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State (2013 Prospect)
