So raise your hands if you were freaking out about that first quarter for the Patriots?
You should all know better by now that that’s just how this team operates. We’ll see how it goes come playoff time, but for now the Patriots used their “start off slow and end fantastically” to clinch home field throughout.
Here are some things I noticed today:
-Sterling Moore played really well at CB. He came in for Kyle Arrington and came away with two interceptions, a TD and some nice coverage.
-Kyle Arrington continued to struggle.
-Devin McCourty played alright at FS. If the Patriots want to play man coverage, it might be best to keep McCourty at safety. He struggles big time when the Patriots move away from the zone.
-It was nice to see Patrick Chung fly around out there again. I think he really helped that defense.
-Antwaun Molden’s pass interference was a killer in the first quarter. It was such a dumb penalty too. He had perfect position, no need to push off.
-Dane Fletcher struggled in coverage early, but he was also lined up against WRs. He continues to impress me.
-We saw some nice pressure from Mark Anderson, Chung and Kyle Love.
-Anderson had a nice game in general finishing with seven tackles and a sack. He played well today against the run.
-BenJarvus Green-Ellis looked very quick and fast today. He saw the writing on the wall from Ridley and bounced back well. Ridley also played well, but he can’t fumble like he did today.
-When you double cover Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez goes off, when you double cover Hernandez, Gronkowski goes off. You can’t win, just give up opposing defenses.
-Gronk had the best season by a tight end of all time. Most yards, most TDs, best blocking. You can’t beat that. It’s gonna be fun to watch him and Hernandez for the next 10 or so years. Just like in high school and college, they’re not only going to be competing for best tight end on their team, but also best receiving tight end in the league.
-Jerod Mayo had a nice game, especially on that deflected pass.
Great win for the Patriots. They continue to win despite adversity. I’ll have more tomorrow in my keys to victory column as always.
