TY Hilton NFL Draft

If you made it through all of those awful Beef ‘O’ Bradys commercials, you got to see a pretty good ball game featuring a couple of first/second day prospects.

Neither player performed to their full potential, but there were certainly enough plays to see why these guys are top prospects.

#4, T.Y. Hilton, WR, FIU
-Fields punts, wisely fair caught first punt.
-Took a hand off from the slot on first play of the game, showed off smooth speed, but awkwardly fumbled when he was tackled.
-Returns kicks too, got blown up on return.
-Ran a nice crisp route, caught in stride and showed off nice quickness to get past defenders
-Scored TD on hand off from the slot, he can do a lot to hurt teams
-Took a screen pass 4 yards longer than it should have gone because of strength
-Took another screen, didn’t get much out of it
-Had a nice double move, but looked like he gave up on play before he could get to the ball
-Another nice route, caught a very low pass with a nice dive
-Showed some really nice moves on first down. Most WRs don’t get that first down.
-Showed nice patience in kick returns
-Used pretty often on sweeps from the slot, gets decent yardage on every hand off
-Fumbled again, ball punched out from behind.
-Probably wasn’t what he envisioned for his last game, but he was also obviously the best player on the FIU team. He lines up all over the field and excels in all aspects. Didn’t show his ability to be a deep threat like he had this year, but he was extremely affective out of the slot. I see him as a Percy Harvin/Steve Smith hybrid. He would fit well with the Denver Broncos if Tim Tebow’s going to be their future starter. I can see him going mid to late 2nd round.

#99 Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall (Scouting Report)
-Pretty good in pursuit of Hilton, made tackle on first play of the game.
-Got a qb hit, but was charged with a questionable offsides call.
-Made another tackle on run, disrupts his blocks, decent in pursuit.
-Doesn’t always make the best reads on play fakes.
-Slowed enough by bump at the line from tight end to not get the sack, still got a hit on QB.
-Gets a nice push from the inside to tough the QB again.
-Knocked out of TD play in double team.
-Over pursued on counter play, ran past play.
-In on a lot of gang tackles, not always the first in on play.
-Completely overpowered and taken out of play by tackle.
-Good edge containment against run.
-Bit too hard on fake QB draw after hand off to RB.
-Got a QB hit off of a very late blitz, showed nice acceleration.
-Showed a nice swim move to get past tackle.
-Ran right by tackle for another QB hit.
-Really nice job filling his hole, pursuing running back and making the tackle for a loss.
-Tackle did as much as he could have to stop him, still couldn’t keep him from hitting QB.
-Completely overpowered tackle to pressure QB.
-Created some nice pressure against FIU, but didn’t get any sacks. I don’t love him as much as some Draft analysts seem to, but he’s a nice late first/early second round prospect. I see him going in the mid-20s in some mocks and I think that might be too early. Doesn’t show off elite athleticism, but he has the strength, moves and enough speed to get to the QB often.
