Patriots vs Giants: Keys to Defeat

Giants vs Patriots Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski's late touchdown wasn't enough to lift the Patriots to victory.

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

There was some discussion on Twitter today about who was to blame for this loss: offense, defense, special teams, coaching, etc. This wasn’t your typical full team loss, but it was on the whole team.

For the first three quarters, the defense was outstanding and for the last quarter the offense came up when it mattered most. This game seemed to come down to specific plays more than any other New England loss this season.

Therefore, for my keys to this week’s defeat, I’ll be getting pretty specific on some of them. This game really seemed to come down to a few key plays:

Arthur Brown NFL Draft

Arthur Brown flew around the field Saturday night, but it wasn't enough.

In a game that might have been the complete opposite of the LSU vs Alabama game, Oklahoma State and Kansas State certainly gave us a lot of plays to analyze.

Here are our thoughts on the top 2012 NFL Draft prospects in the game.

Luke Kuechly Scouting Report

Monday, November 7th, 2011

QB / RB / WR / TE / OT / OG / OC / DT / DE / OLB / ILB / CB / SS

Luke Kuechly NFL Draft

Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

Height: 6’3″
Weight: 237
Grade: 6.9 (Grading Scale)

Film Room Notes: vs Florida State

Strengths:  As instinctive as they come, makes almost every play on the field – Pursues the ball sideline to sideline and is a sound fundamental tackler – Rarely makes a mistake on the field and if he does makes up for it with his constant effort – Sound in pass coverage (played safety in HS) – Good lateral mobility – Keeps his eyes on the QB and truts his reads – Very good size for a middle linebacker – One of the smartest players in the country – Kuechly is like a coach on the field, knows everyones job – Future defensive playcaller and captain – Current team captain and leader.

Weaknesses: Not the best athlete – Can get fooled at times by misdirection – Needs to add 10-15 pounds to his frame -Questions about if he can handle playing inside at the next level.

Film Room Notes: vs South Florida, vs Michigan

Strengths: Great size/speed combo – Gifted athlete who plays with tremendous fire – Has the ability to make plays from sideline to sideline – Punishing tackler with good burst- allows him to get around blocks – Fluid athlete who excels in pass coverage – Four down linebacker – Has the ability to fit in almost any scheme – Great natural strength – Can take on blocks and shed.

Weakness: Not as naturally instinctive as Kuechly, relies more on his athleticism – Can be late reading and reacting at times – Gets pulled out of position on counters and misdirection play – Listed at 6’2″ but may be shorter.

Patriots vs Giants: The Aftermath

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

I was all set to heap all sorts of praise on the Patriots defense in this one, but if you can’t come up big when it matters the most, then what good was the first three and a half quarters?

I’m not being overdramatic, and I’m not being reactionary, but this team has a good chance of going to 5-4 after next week. The offense can’t bail out the defense and the defense can’t bail out the offense when it matters most.

Here are some of my thoughts on the Giants 24-20 victory over the Patriots:

Eli Manning Patriots

Eli Manning will be looking to prove he is an elite QB today against the New England Patriots.

NEPD Staff Writer: Brian Delabarrera

Today I take a look at some of the key matchups in today’s game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants. Luckily, none of them involve catching something on a helmet.
