Here is who we will be watching on Saturday night when the Razorbacks take on the Lobos.
This game is expected to be one sided in favor of the Razorbacks not only on the scoreboard, but also in terms of NFL talent to scout. Here’s a rundown of the top prospects in this game, with full scouting reports to follow after we watch the film.
#85 WR Greg Childs– The best and most complete WR on an Arkansas team that is loaded at the position. Childs is a big lanky receiver. Big play receiver, who can make the tough catches. Childs missed the end of last season with a knee injury, so it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back.
#3 WR Joe Adams– While Childs is the big play WR, Adams is more of a possession guy. He runs more a lot of routes and can make defenders miss with his shiftiness. Adams drops too many balls, and sometimes runs lazy routes. Want to see him be more consistent.
#4 WR Jarius Wright– Wright is the 3rd draftable WR on the Razorback team. Wright is more of a slot receiver at the next level. He is also one of the fastest players on the team. He is the most polished route runner of the 3 WRs, has good burst in and out of cuts; can be explosive. Had two touchdowns in game 1 and looks poised for a big year.
#91 DE Jake Bequette– Every time I watched Arkansas last year Bequette stood out. He makes a lot of big plays. Relentless motor, goes hard on every play. He has really good size for an NFL D-End at 6’5” 270 pounds. This is a guy who could really move up draft boards with a big season.
#34 MLB Jerry Franklin- It seems that Franklin has been at Arkansas forever. Franklin isn’t very tall but he is built thick and stout. Franklin has good instincts and reads plays well, however he isn’t that explosive. Franklin stays on the field in all situations and is a pretty good coverage LB. Franklin is a middle round draft prospects, but his speed will likely be the determining factor into how high he can go.
#8 QB Tyler Wilson (Jr.) – Wilson is the next in a long line of Bobby Petrino QB’s who has an NFL future. Stepped in last season and played very well against eventual National Champion Auburn. I am anxious to see how he looks as #1 guy.
Other Players to Watch:
#5 S Tremain Thomas, #20 RB Ronnie Wingo Jr., #11 WR Cobi Hamilton
One of Arkansas’ best pro prospects RB Knile Davis is out for the season with an ankle injury. I loved him coming into the season and think he will eventually be a high NFL draft pick
I’ve got to be honest there aren’t too many pro prospects on the New Mexico Roster, here is one or two, I will try to watch.
#7 WR Lamaar Thomas– Highly recruited out of high school. Originally went to Ohio St and then transferred to New Mexico. I will be watching him to see if he has the skills to entice NFL personnel. He should stand out on a poor UNM team.
#58 MLB Carmen Messina– Messina is an ultra productive LB, one of the tackling leaders nationwide the last couple years. He is the leader of the Lobo’s defense. I don’t know if he is athletic enough to make it to the next level. However, he is a relentless worker and gives it all he’s got on every play.
