NEPD Prospect Preview: Week 5

AJ Jenkins NFL Draft

Illinois always seems to have a few interesting NFL Draft prospects - they won't disappoint this year either.

We’ll be on the road this weekend, checking out the Illinois vs Northwestern game from the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium’s press box. Once we return, we’ve got the Nebraska vs Wisconsin queued up to watch.

Here are the top 2012 NFL Draft Prospects that we’ll be scouting.

Staff scouts Mike Loyko and Stephen Sheehan will be breaking down the Florida vs Alabama, USC vs Arizona, and Clemson vs Virginia Tech games.

Matt Elder from BuffaloBillsDraft.com is scouting the Washington vs Utah and Baylor vs Kansas State games.

Matt Deem from NYJetsDraft.com will be taking a look at the prospects in the South Florida vs Pitt contest, while Chad Pullen of MiamiDolphinsDraft.com is scouting the Miami vs Bethune-Cookman game.

For reviews of all the games we’ve scouted so far, check out the Film Room Archive, with a mountain of scouting reports from this year’s games.

Illinois vs Northwestern

#94 Akeem Spence, DE, Illinois
We’ve only seen limited tape on Spence, but he flashed as a red-shirt freshman. He could be special, either in the 2012 NFL Draft or in 2013.

#9 Trulon Henry, S, Illinois
Henry makes plays from sideline-to-sideline, close to the line, and back in coverage. We’ll be watching this safety prospect intently with the great All-22 view from the press box.

#8 AJ Jenkins, WR, Illinois
This will be our first time scouting Jenkins – he has some good size, we’ll see if he has the skills.

#71 Jeff Allen, OT, Illinois
Allen is a good pass-blocker that has some versatility across the line.

#76 Graham Pocic, C, Illinois
Shows some good instincts as a center, picking up blitzes well. We’ll be looking to see how well he moves after the snap.

#94 Vincent Browne, DE, Northwestern
Browne is a huge over-achiever, who is only limited by his size and speed. Will probably be under-drafted come April.

#32 David Arnold, S, Northwestern
Isn’t quick enough to play man against top receivers, but seems to have a knack for zone coverage. Arnold is good in run support as well.

Wisconsin vs Nebraska

#16 Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin
Wilson will be intriguing to watch – not sold that he is an NFL QB yet.

#1 Nick Toon, WR, Wisconsin / #15 Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
Toon’s matchup against Alfonzo Dennard is must-watch. The Husker CB is one of our Top 20 NFL Draft prospects.

#66 Peter Konz, OC, Wisconsin / #94 Jared Crick, DL, Nebraska
We’d expect to see these two matched up on occasion, with Konz helping out some guards against the talented Crick. Crick can make plays in both the running and passing game, but he will occasionally disappear.

#4 Lavonte David, LB, Nebraska
David is a football player, plain and simple. He will make an impact wherever he ends up in the NFL.

I hope Konz is in a Pat’s uniform next year. He will be a better fit for the Pat’s than the center from Ohio State
