Watching tape of Vontaze Burfict just makes you smile. If you can catch a couple of his games, you’ll be smiling too. A late-night game against Missouri (9/9 – 10:30) will whet your appetite, and a barn-burner against Oregon (10/15) should make you full.
Why the Patriots need him:
The need for an inside linebacker depends mainly on the progression (both on and off the field) of 2010 Patriots Draft Pick Brandon Spikes. If Spikes can’t be counted on for early downs, then Burfict might be a good pair with Jerod Mayo in those situations.
Dane Fletcher and Gary Guyton would still see plenty of playing time presumably.
Why to watch him:
Intensity. Instincts. Hitting. Patriots fans love guys that find the ball and deliver the hit. Burfict certainly fits the bill. The question is, does he fit “The Bill” – as he tends to get some silly penalties and will occasionally take himself out of the play.
If he can show that he can be disciplined, he certainly has the athletic ability to become a star in the NFL and a 1st-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

What a beast. Flies around like Polamulu out there – which isn’t always a good thing. He would certainly make an impact though!
We already have a player at safety who gets silly penalties and takes himself out the play. Why not have a linebacker who will do the same?
That is certainly a decent comparison. Meriweather has yet to learn, we still have hope for Burfict.
