Shane Vereen Picked By Patriots

Shane Vereen Patriots

Shane Vereen is your newest Patriots running back.

Joining Nate Solder (OT, Colorado) and Ras-I Dowling (DB, Virginia), the Patriots have selected Shane Vereen (RB, California) with the 56th pick in the draft.

Vereen was our RB pick for the Patriots in our positional preview. This is what we had to say about him:

Our favorite change-of-pace back in the loaded bunch of Hunter, Todman, Locke, Jones, and others. Vereen has a deceptive ability to run inside, while being a force in the passing game. He is a guy that can complement what Green-Ellis brings to the table.

Vereen will join Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, and a host of veterans on the running back depth chart.

I’m mad about the loss of chance at Mark Ingram.. He is just what Brady needed to take off the pressure. But I have faith in BB, he is one of the greatest minds in football history and he will get us more championships. Ryan Mallet is also a great QB. He has intelligence and amazing arm. He will learn so much under Brady and in the future will have an opportunity to become great. He is just like Brady except will have an a lot better teacher. When Brady has reached his end, Mallet will be ready and produce. Ras-I Dowling will end being that other CB we need. Offset McCourty we will have our corners covered for sure. BB is always blowing the minds of NFL and Patriot fans. With Nate Solder being our first round pick, it looks like Matt Light is out. If thats the case think about the possibilities of trade we could get for him. He is a multiple year pro-bowl selection. We will get great stock for him. I think we will trade him out for that OLB we need. Let me know what you think of my commments

These 2011 Patriots draft picks will go down as one of Bill’s finest group of players drafted!

Overall, this was a piss poor group of college players on the defensive side of the ball that I have ever seen. That is why Bill is stockpiling for 2012 and bailed out of the 3rd and 4th rounds. I compare this draft to the 2008 draft where the only good defensive play taken was Mayo by the Patriots or the laughable 2006 when all we heard during the predraft was “Manny Lawson, Manny Lawson”. Only a few of the first rounders in this draft will stand out in a couple of years and Solder will be one of them.

Dowling was a steal @ #33 period! He is a high risk due to the hamstring injury but high rewards, with Boden coming back he can settle in at a reasonable rate.

devote rest of draft to Oline and front 7 on D please, BB.

Pats again miss what they need. They had a former heisman pick at 28 for a complementary back at best. Vereen is not a solid starting rb. They Pats picked a cb and rb in the second round when they had OG, DE, DT, OLBs available.

I guess Scott p was the brains behind the draft and their goes dontay moch that’s sad

  6. Cborden says:

lol..hence the early cb, hope it hits two years in a row.

  7. ripmod says:

A big Danny Woodhead! The strongest and fastest back in the draft. Very elusive and a great blocker. GRREEEAAATTTT PICK!

  8. QB9 says:

verren is good but if they get a chance gett!! a good ss for defense and some lolb mlb rolb and dt . offense im not worried defense i am a little

  9. Cborden says:

will they pick 73&74…thats the question. oh yeah and will they EVER help out the pass rush

  10. Cborden says:

    73 &138 for 60

    • Jim R says:

not a math wiz, but i do not see how that helped them

    • Jeff V says:

Is there enough roster space for all these picks…makes me think they will not spend any $$ in Free agency…which shouldnt suprise me they did have the 2nd lowest payroll in the nfl last officially not liking this draft.

  11. Cborden says:

de with the next pats pick

  12. Jared says:

    now they trade pick 60…

  13. joe says:

So the pats have 10 rb 10cb and no olb and no wr

  14. Jared says:

not a big fan of Vereen. Maybe the least impressive runner of the top 6 or 8 RB’s. Safe pick, not much potential in my opinion.

  15. Jeff V says:

yea as if the Pats dont have any 3rd down backs…how about addressing the worst pass rush in the NFL?

  16. bledsoes_ghost says:

I think a bruiser would have been better, but a pick like Vereen forces opposing defenses to keep on guessing…

  17. Cborden says:

    hands out of the backfield
