Torrey Smith Worked Out For Patriots

Sixty-yard TD passes seemed to be a thing of the past once Randy Moss left town. Torrey Smith might have something to say about that...

Former Maryland wide receiver Torrey Smith has conducted a private workout for the New England Patriots, according to a source close to the National Football Post.

Smith (6-1/205) had an excellent combine, impressing with his 4.4 speed and explosion in the agility/leaping drills. The former Terrapin was also very productive on the field, catching 67 balls for 1075 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Smith has received a ton of publicity for fighting through some incredible hardships in his life. Smith related that, “It’s something I hope a lot of people can learn from. I hope the story is getting out. I’m just honored. It’s a blessing to be here. I’ve obviously went through a lot to be here and it helped me a lot more than it hurt me.”

With all of their starting receivers returning and a 3rd rounder in Taylor Price that hasn’t yet had a chance to prove himself, its unclear if the Patriots would be willing to spend a high draft pick on a receiver.

The Patriots also have an interview scheduled with Fort Valley State receiver Ricardo Lockette. For more information, check out our 2011 Patriots Draft Contacts page.
