Scouts For Patriots Casting a Wide Net

Cam Heyward NFL Draft

Cam Heyward eyes up a quarterback - will he do that in a Patriots uniform next year?

New England scouts continue to make stops across the country, with Pro Days and private workouts on top of their priority list right now.

After our last scouting update, the Patriots have made it to a handful of new Pro Days and scheduled three new private workouts: Andy Dalton (QB, TCU), Virgil Green (TE, Nevada) and Chykie Brown (CB, Texas)

Patriots scouts were in attendance at Ohio State, where defensive lineman Cam Heyward was pretty much a spectator due to his injuries. Wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher also has seen some interest from the Patriots.

Purdue was another stop for the scouting department, where possible outside linebacker conversion Ryan Kerrigan showed some great quickness. That said, he reportedly still lacked fluidity in space, which could certainly hinder his ability to cover tight ends and backs.

LSU, another stopping point for the NE scouts, had a bevy of interesting prospects, including linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, cornerback Patrick Peterson, and under-sized defensive tackle Drake Nevis.

Expect the Patriots to be in attendance at Florida this Tuesday and Iowa on the 21st. Missouri and Maryland also have Pro Days upcoming. For the full list of dates, check out our 2011 Pro Day Schedule.
