Patriots Working Out Virgil Green

Virgil Green NFL Draft

Nevada TE Virgil Green showed his incredible athleticism on the field as well, not just at the combine.

Nevada tight end Virgil Green wowed the assembled masses at the NFL Combine just a few weeks ago. He is now set to attend a private workout with the New England Patriots after his college Pro Day, according to Joe Everett of NFL Draft Bible.

Green (6-3/249) ran a blistering 4.54 forty, while impressing with a 42.5″ vertical leap. He also showed some strength by putting up 23 reps on the bench press.

Green caught 35 balls for 515 yards (14.7 average) and 5 touchdowns during his last season at Nevada, with NEPD favorite Colin Kaepernick throwing him the ball.

While the Patriots certainly seem to be set at the TE position with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, alongside veteran Alge Crumpler, Coach Belichick has shown in the past that he never shies away from drafting tight ends in the middle rounds. We’d project Green as a 4th rounder at this point in the NFL Draft process.

Pats may see him as the outside WR they are looking for with that combo of size, speed and leaping ability. With him out wide, the pinballs in the slot, Gronk & Hernandez at TE, and Woodhead out of the backfield, they are matchup nightmares for D-coordinators. They just need to be able to keep Brady upright long enough to find them.

Getting creative here, Guy has H-Back written all over him. He would be a match up nightmare IMO
