Patriots Looking at Allen Bailey

Allen Bailey Patriots Draft

The Patriots might be checking to see where Allen Bailey could fit in their 3-4 defense.

Confirmed by Christopher Price at WEEI, the Patriots will be conducting a private workout with Miami defensive lineman Allen Bailey this Wednesday.

Bailey is the biggest name to have a confirmed workout scheduled with the Patriots. He weighed in at 285 pounds and stood 6’3″ tall, but it is his versatility that might be his biggest asset.

The former Hurricane spent some time at both defensive tackle and defensive end in college, but raised eyebrows by participating in linebacker drills at the NFL Combine.

He looked relatively fluid for such a big guy, making it a possibility that he could spend some time as an “elephant” in the Patriots 3-4. His 4.8 speed certainly won’t hurt.

Bailey finished the 2010 campaign with 11.0 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. He made a total of 45 tackles.

    Let me se……..

    a/. Undersized for a DT,
b/.VERY SLOW REACTION ON THE SNAP,
c/. NEED’S TO DIVERSIFY Away from the bull rush,
    d/.Can get stronger,
    e/.He SIT’S OUT too many play’s, &
    f/. NOT alot of production……..

    Ummmmmm’…………………………………………………………..NO.
That includes useing him as a OLB.

  2. John M. says:

Nobody ever talked about Marvin Austin as a possible draft pick for New England. I’ve been watching some Robert Quinn highlights and you see how dominating Marvin is also. Doug’s mock draft has Marvin Austin going 30th in the 1st round. I know he has character issues but I’m surprised that NOBODY ever talks about him as a possible pick, even in the 2nd round. If he’s still there at pick #60, do you take him?

  3. JimC says:

Allen Bailey, DT/DE, Miami (Senior) will never get picked by the Patriots if they are working him out. It’s a big smokescreen.

    • Ryan says:

Truth. What would be neat to see is how many players were picked by the Patriots that actually were given private work outs.

  4. Phil says:

Just watched a little bit and not overly impressed. He is pretty explosive off the line but not great in pursuit or tackling. Might not be quick enough COD for coverage. But could be a beast middle linebacker…for another team 🙂

  5. Phil says:

Bailey was the guy that most looked like Willie McGinnest though. I haven’t seen much film on him but his combine was pretty impressive…and i had no idea that he wasn’t a linebacker in college. Versatile. Where is he projected? Could be a nice project player to pick in the later rounds. BTW LMAO @ “looks like Tarzan plays like Jane” Thanks for the laugh Brushi!

  6. Bruschi54 says:

Bailey is very similar to Vernon Gholston, looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. Looks completely lost a lot of the time on the field, slow to recognize and react to plays. Physically looks like he lives in weight room, and runs very well once he gets started. U of Miami staff only had him on field for about 50% of snaps as the season went on, he will be a project for sure in BB’s defense. Rather than kick outside and have more to learn, might be better getting up near 300lbs and playing inside backup to Vince Wilfork on passing downs early on.

  7. TD says:

This goes on every year; BB brings someone in to get a closer look and bloggers, reporters, fans and foes stand at attention as if he were EF Hutton. If I had a dollar for every player they brought in and all fans and media jumped I would be, well, typing this in Tahiti.

  8. Patriots Draft Guru says:

YES. Bailey would be an absolute BEAST at OLB… trim him down a bit and let him destroy.
