Patriots Eye Two USF Prospects

Terrell McClain Patriots

Could this USF prospect be a defensive end target for Coach Belichick?

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, the Patriots will be conducting a private workout with South Florida prospects Terrell McClain (DL) and Mistral Raymond (CB). Coach Belichick was in town to watch USF’s Pro Day this week as well.

McClain has been steadily rising up draft boards as of late, on the heels of a great combine and post-season play. He ran a 4.98 forty, while measuring 6’2″ and 297 pounds.

The 6’2″ measurement might be a bit of a concern, as Patriots 3-4 DE’s usually are at the 6’4″ plus range. McClain’s good first step and lower body power allow him to hold his own against taller linemen.

McClain is easily the more highly touted prospect of the two, with Raymond not having been invited to the combine. That said, at 6’2″ and 192 pounds he may be able to find his niche with a team that needs a taller cornerback in the later rounds. Raymond has also played some safety.

  1. Jeff says:

Fat chance Pats go for this guy at DE. He’d be an interior player for them. No way would this guy hold up at the 5 Tech.
