Patriots Checking on Safety Options

Jaiquawn Jarrett Patriots

Could the Patriots be targeting two prospects from Temple?

According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, the Patriots have scheduled a private workout with former Temple safety Jaiquawn Jarrett.

After a somewhat disappointing Senior Bowl, Jarret’s stock was a little down compared to his excellent 2010 season. His performance in Indianapolis brought him back into the mid-round discussion.

Jarrett (6-0/198) ran a decent 4.62 forty at the NFL Combine, but shined in positional drills. His fluid hips and nice backpedal showed off some decent free safety skills.

Free safety is certainly a position that is up in the air for the Patriots with all the mystery surrounding Brandon Meriweather.

Totaling two interceptions and 74 tackles as a senior, Jarrett was a 1st-team All-Mac performer.

Jarrett joins Missouri safety Kevin Rutland and Fresno State safety Desia Dunn on the Patriots private workout list.

    Quinton Carter FS at #60

I really liked the idea of drafting Carter BEFORE Meriweather decided to get involved in another shoot out. That aside, his decision making (inconsistency) on the football field is enough to warrant looking for his replacement a year early… in hopes that he could then be traded prior to his becoming a Free Agent in 2012. Carter would be a great fit for the Patriots and would be a step up from Meriweather.

This not being able to sign free agent’s thing is throwing a solid wrench in the work’s no doubt, but when team’s can…….If Roman Harper want’s to come in at a decent price, I take him all day long. I’d be a win-win for the Pat’s and Him. Don’t know weither he’ll want to re-sign with N.O. or if they’d want him back do too a price issue for what he may be entilttled to if he stayed, but he’d work well and be a great veteran presence for the young guy’s on the squad that’s for sure.

BB will need to address S spot sooner than later as I believe Sanders and Merriweather are up after this year. Maybe they see a banner S talent pool next year, but this year is not good. Maybe he brings McGowan back, he was good at playing in the box and covering TE’s.
