Patriots Trade Laurence Maroney

Patriots Trade Laurence Maroney

Laurence Maroney has danced his last jig for the Patriots.

After a promising beginning to this career in New England, Laurence Maroney has been traded by the Patriots to a different dance partner: the Denver Broncos.

In return for Maroney and a 6th-round pick in 2011, the Patriots will receive the Broncos’ 4th-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. The Patriots now have two picks in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th rounds. Check our 2011 Patriots Draft Picks page for full details.

With Maroney now in the AFC West, the Patriots are left with veterans Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, and Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis to man the every-down running duties. Each of those players has a contract that expires at the end of 2010, and the Boston Herald is predicting that the Patriots will target Alabama RB Mark Ingram next spring.

Maroney will be reunited with former Patriots offensive-coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is the head coach of the Denver Broncos.

  1. Ryan says:

Absolutely no need to have 5 running backs on this team. At most I think the teams should have 3. It takes away from to many other spots on the team. For example, only having three OLB’s. I think there is still more dealing to be done. Perhaps an OL or so.

  2. Coach Bill says:

About time. Fast Freddy and the Law-Firm will hold it down this year… Mark Ingram in 2011!

  3. Patriots Draft Guru says:

Pretty decent getting a 4th for Maroney when he’s banged up. Too bad he never got it all together.
