Tom Brady and Matt Light could be resting easier in the next couple of days. After tallying double-digit sacks against the aforementioned duo as a member of the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots have expressed a “strong interest” in signing the newly released Aaron Schobel.
According to multiple reports, Schobel has expressed a desire to play for a contender, as well as move closer to his family in Texas. This gives the Houston Texans a leg up on the situation, but the deal is far from over.
With the uncertainty surrounding the Patriots OLB situation, Schobel and his 78 career sacks would bring a veteran pass-rushing threat that has long eluded the Pats defense.
CSNNE’s Mike Giardi states, however, that Schobel is “looking for big money” and won’t accept a Junior Seau-style contract. Whether the Patriots are looking to pony up for another big contract is anyone’s guess, especially after re-signing Leigh Bodden and Vince Wilfork this offseason.

The only reason he would be a good addition is because of the lack of numbers at the olb/de position. Maybe Bill should have picked Clay Mathews when he had the chance…Pats are hurting at the olb position. TBC is an average player…yea he had 10 sacks…but 5 were vs the Bills who had the worst Oline in the NFL.
Point taken, but TBC did provide some consistent pressure along with the sacks. Tully is no pro-bowler, but he is a decent second pass-rusher.
How would schobel help them?? If he walked into foxboro tomoro…even out of shape….he would instantly be the best pass-rusher they have.
The effect of Mankin’s absence will be key, especially on the running game-
He would be a good addition, possibly Vrabel type presence on the outside. But any “big money” deal for outsider will not help ease the Mankins situation. Mankins is key to a solid offensive season in improved division.
It aint my money…Pats need anyone that can beat an NFL tackle 1 on 1. I wouldn’t give him a crazy deal, but if you want him, youll have to pony up the dough.
I realize he is good, but im skeptical as to how much he could our team.
Schobel has been great with the Bills but as a Patriot he will be a part-time player and he has been very injury prone. I wouldn’t look to give him ‘big money’ in New England-
He has played all 16 games in 8 of his nine years.
It seems he’s been out more than that the last couple of years-
Schobel would be a great addition, but I still want Cunningham to get lots of playing time.
