The Patriots have selected OT Thomas Welch with the 208th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Welch played his college ball at Vanderbilt. The Patriots gave up their remaining two non-compensatory 7th round picks to move up with Washington.

Welch joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Taylor Price, Aaron Hernandez and Zoltan Mesko as the newest Patriots.

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

With the 205th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Patriots select Ted Larsen, offensive lineman from North Carolina State.

Larsen (6-3/304) played center for the Wolfpack. The Patriots coaches ran him through drills during his position workouts this pre-draft season.

Larsen joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Taylor Price, Aaron Hernandez and Zoltan Mesko as the newest Patriots.

2010 NFL Draft: With the 150th Pick…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

With the 150th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Patriots select Michigan punter Zoltan Mesko. Mesko will replace Chris Hanson, who will not return to the Patriots.

Mesko had a poor day at the Senior Bowl, but his athleticism and punting skills make him an attractive addition to New England. Mesko averaged over 44.5 yards per punt in his senior season, which also saw the former Wolverine improve his directional punting skills.

Mesko is a native of Romania, also speaks Hungarian. Our friends at the Patriots Hungarian Fan Club have to be ecstatic.

Mesko joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Taylor Price, and Aaron Hernandez as the newest Patriots.

2010 NFL Draft: With the 113th Pick…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

The Patriots have selected Florida TE Aaron Hernandez with the 113th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. The extremely talented receiving tight end is the 3rd Florida Gator to join the Patriots.

Hernandez (6-2/250) is incredibly athletic, running a sub 4.6 forty yard dash. He has a knack for getting open and making big plays. His main weakness is his below average blocking skills. The Patriots have now stocked their once bare TE cupboard with Hernandez, Crumpler, and Gronkowski.

Hernandez joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, and Taylor Price as the newest Patriots.

2010 NFL Draft: Day Three Targets

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

The Patriots have addressed many of their needs, including WR, TE, OLB, and ILB. Defensive end, running back, and the offensive line still need a bit of attention, and all positions can use more depth. Here is who we see the Patriots targeting on Day Three of the NFL Draft.

Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinnati
One of our favorite players in the draft should have been picked by now. Great return man as well as a hard-working WR. Even with Taylor Price on board, you can’t have too many good wideouts.

Everson Griffen, DE, USC / Austen Lane, DE, Murray State / Ricky Sapp, DE, Clemson
These are three tweeners that have lot of talent, but a few question marks. Griffen’s stiffness and lack of a high-end motor pushed him down the draft. Austen Lane hasn’t played the toughest competition, but had great production in the FCS. Sapp is a player with medical and production concerns. All would be 3-4 OLB’s or 4-3 DE’s.

Al Woods, DE, LSU
Woods worked out for the Patriots and could be an option for the 5-technique DE. Very stout at the POA, and has good size (6-5/310).

Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech / LeGarrette Blount, RB, Orgeon
We know that Dwyer failed a drug test for an ADD medicine, and he doesn’t have much experience in a pro-style offense. Blount has some issues off the field as well. That said, in the 4th/5th round this are low-risk high-reward picks. A young, big bruising back in the mold of Corey Dillon would be great.

AJ Edds, OLB, Iowa
The Patriots already drafted Brandon Spikes to fill the ILB spot, and Jermaine Cunningham to fill the OLB spot. Edds is a guy that covers well and will be a great special-teams player.

Chris Marinelli, OT, Stanford / Kyle Calloway, OT, Iowa
Two late-round tackles that could provide depth and injury insurance for the Patriots.

Zoltan Mesko, P, Michgian / Mike Brandtner, P, Iowa State
I hope they are never used… except for holding for extra points.

2010 NFL Draft: With the 90th Pick…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

With the 90th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Patriots have selected Taylor Price, WR from Ohio University.

Price had an impressive off-season, working out well at the 2010 Senior Bowl. He ran a 4.41 forty, showcasing his vertical speed and ability to separate from DB’s. You can also see his great blocking skills in the video below. Thanks to Universal Draft for the video.

Price joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, and Brandon Spikes as the newest Patriots.
