2010 NFL Draft: With the 208th Pick…

The Patriots have selected OT Thomas Welch with the 208th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Welch played his college ball at Vanderbilt. The Patriots gave up their remaining two non-compensatory 7th round picks to move up with Washington.

Welch joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Taylor Price, Aaron Hernandez and Zoltan Mesko as the newest Patriots.

" Another O-lineman " , are you serious? The Pats need some real help at o-line. We need a future RT and RG. If your o-line isnt set your not going anywhere in the NFL. Look at all the playoff teams last year. Indy , great line that always protects 18 , that line gives up low , low sack #'s every year. NO's o-line killed it last year , they did a great job at protecting Brees which is no small task considering how much that team likes to throw the rock. Plus NO's ran the hell out of the ball last year , that made their whole O. LOL look at the jokes , their o-line was the biggest reason why they got to the playoffs besides their D. They protected a rookie QB and made them the best running team in the league. Anytime you have a hole on O-line your whole team is vulnerable. You wont be able to get the ball to your WRs/TE , wont be able to block for your RBs and QB will get killed. Your D will always be playing from behind and forced to take more chances that can get you burned , plus they'll be on the field more tha they should. Its extremely clich'e , but it really does start up front. Again look at all the successful teams and you'll find strong O/D lines that can protect/pressure the QB.

At this point, we’re drafting for depth.

Do you really think we’re going to get a serviceable RB in the 6th round? O-line depth is always useful; look at last year.

I think we will trade for a RB but thats my opinion.

Just a thought, when it comes to Bill drafting O linemen, i usually shut up. This is one area where he seems to do pretty well.
