Patriots Work Out Spikes, Chancellor

The Patriots recently held private workouts with Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes and Virginia Tech safety Kam Chancellor.

Spikes has been falling down draft boards after posting a 5.0+ forty-yard dash time at the Florida Pro Day. Spikes would presumably be a two-down run stopping ILB for the Patriots.

Chancellor is an intriguing prospect that some feel could fill the S/LB hybrid role last filled by Rodney Harrison. He is a big thumper that at times struggles with faster receivers.

Looking at last years draft, it is fairly obvious that Bill looks at the players history and accomplishments. ex. Chung, Pryor, etc.
That being said, if i remember right Spikes has quite a few acolades. If he is there towards the end of the second or even in third, I think Bill will pick him up.

because he is a great player and is always around the ball… don’t get caught with numbers… he plays faster than that…

Wish they had a third round pick, but a third and fourth went to Oakland for Burgess.

Now that his stock went down i think it is a good time for pats to consider taking him in the low 2nd or 3rd round. great linebacker that is always around action. good leader

So guys like Ray Rice don’t burn us for 80 yards. Think Ted Johnson. Spikes isn’t flashy or fast but he is usaully in the right sport to make plays.

Brandon Spikes is one slow dude. Why would the Patriots draft him?
