Patriots Free Agency Day 1 Recap

After one crazy day on the phones for Bill Belichick and company, the Patriots ended up fixing up their own house before building an addition.

The front office brass played with bringing in Julius Peppers (now a Bear) and Anquan Boldin (now a Raven), but ultimately, the stakes got a little rich for the Patriots. This left many a Patriot fan feeling disappointed, but the best was still to come.

After a month of negotiations, the Patriots signed Vince Wilfork to a 5-year deal worth $40 million. That was preceded by locking up Tully Banta-Cain for three years and Stephen Neal for two.

The Patriots are still in the mix for CB Leigh Bodden as well, according to his agent.

All this, and it was just day 1.

Please tell me Josh Reed is not what you mean by the best is yet to come!

Would have loved to add Boldin. Peppers was way overpaid – so I have no problem missing out on that one.

Wilfork was a good soldier by not holding out this year – I am happy for him (and us) that they gave him what he deserved.

Hopefully we can resign Bodden, he wass clearly our best corner. I expect Butler to make a big leap in year two. By keeping our restricted FA’s – the only guy left is K. Faulk.

So now my question is… who in FA do we go after next?

Larry Foote may be a good fit at a great price.
