Patriots Schedule Meeting with Damian Williams

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The Patriots will hold a private meeting (not workout) with USC wide receiver Damian Williams on March 24th. The meeting precedes USC’s pro day.

Damian Williams is regarded by some to the best route-runner in the 2010 NFL Draft. His 4.53 time at the NFL Combine was expected, but his 19 bench reps and 38″ vertical did impress scouts.

Williams is one of a handful of receivers vying for the #2 receiver spot behind Dez Bryant. Brandon Lafell, Andre Roberts, Golden Tate, Demaryius Thomas, and Arrelious Benn all have the skill-set to make that claim as well.

Patriots Schedule Workout with Matt Mayberry

Friday, March 19th, 2010

NE Patriots Draft has learned that the Patriots have scheduled a workout with Indiana LB Matt Mayberry today in Bloomington.

Mayberry made his name at Indiana being a tackling machine at middle linebacker. He finished his career with 10.5 sacks and 3 interceptions.

At 6-2/240, Mayberry would me a little small to line up at SILB for the Patriots, but they might be taking a look at him to backup at the WILB position. Jerod Mayo and Gary Guyton are currently manning the inside linebacker positions for the Patriots.

Patriots Sign Alge Crumpler

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The Patriots signed veteran TE Alge Crumpler today, making him the lone tight end on the roster. After a great career with the Atlanta Falcons and some disappointing seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Crumpler is mainly seen as a blocker. On occasion though, he can still catch a pass or three.

Crumpler has always been described as a hard-working guy that brings leadership qualities to any team that he has worked with. Just what the Patriots need.

Crumpler fills the vacancy left by the departure of six-year veteran Ben Watson and Chris Baker.

Patriots To Work Out Thaddeus Gibson

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

NE Patriots Draft has learned that the New England Patriots will hold a private workout with Ohio State NFL Draft prospect Thaddeus Gibson. Gibson projects to be an OLB in the Patriots 3-4 system.

Gibson has been rising up draft boards after an impressive showing at the NFL Combine, leading all defensive linemen in the 3-cone drill. Gibson totaled 4 sacks during his junior season.

Patriots Will Work Out Tebow, Roberts

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

This week the Patriots will be holding private workouts with Florida QB Tim Tebow and Citadel WR Andre Roberts.

Tim Tebow debuted his much heralded new throwing motion at the Florida Pro Day yesterday, getting solid, but not spectacular reviews. Bill Belichick would likely be drafting Tebow to fill both the backup QB role as well as using him in specific game situations. The Patriots adore versatility.

Andre Roberts has long been a favorite of NE Patriots Draft, as his fearlessness over the middle will fill a hole left vacated by Jabar Gaffney. Roberts is very speedy and a smart football player.

Tennessee Pro Day Report

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Three main prospects were to show off in front of NFL Scouts today in Tennessee, but only two finished their workout. Top safety prospect Eric Berry left the workout after spraining his big toe early on in a positional drill, returning to the field in sneakers shortly there after and calling it a day. The injury isn’t serious and shouldn’t affect Berry’s draft stock.

Nose Tackle Dan Williams and running back Montario Hardesty, however, completed their workouts with no issues. Williams showed good footwork and the punch needed to fend off double teams. Hardesty participated only in positional drills, showing off some decent skills in the passing game.

Both Williams and Hardesty continue their climb up NFL Draft boards, Williams solidifying himself as the #3 DT behind Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy. Hardesty is in the 2nd tier of RB’s behind CJ Spiller, Ryan Matthews, and Jahvid Best.
