NFL Draft Homework: Alamo Bowl

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Michigan State vs Texas Tech, January 2nd, 9:00pm, ESPN

Top NFL Draft Prospects for the Alamo Bowl:

1. Brandon Carter, OG, Texas Tech(Pictured)
You think Mr. Suh is pretty special right? This guy pretty much shut him down. On tape. Lebron would have confiscated the video. That said, he has had his run-ins, and isn’t the prototypical guard size for some teams. Brandon should be getting a phone call sometime during the 3rd-4th rounds.

2. Greg Jones, LB, Michigan State
Versatile ‘backer that can play inside and out in a 4-3. Too small for a 3-4 NFL defense, but there are enough 4-3 teams for Jones to be picked in the first three rounds if he declares.

3. Blair White, WR, Michigan State
Just a solid receiver that will catch on with a team as a 4th or 5th receiver. Should be picked in the 4th-6th rounds.

NFL Draft Homework: Liberty Bowl

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Arkansas vs East Carolina, January 2nd, 5:30pm, ESPN

Top NFL Draft Prospects for the Liberty Bowl:

1. Ryan Mallet, QB, Arkansas(Pictured)
Not a lock to declare for the 2010 Draft, but he could be a 1st Round pick if he does. Has the big arm and nice size that NFL scouts love.

2. CJ Wilson, DE, East Carolina
Pass-rusher that has expanded his game to contain the run as well. Great size (6-4/280) to go with his edge speed will tempt teams in the 3rd or 4th round.

NFL Draft Homework: Cotton Bowl

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Oklahoma State vs Ole Miss, January 2nd, 2:00pm, Fox

Top NFL Draft Prospects for the Cotton Bowl:

1. Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St. (Pictured)
A top-flight OT prospect that will undoubtedly be picked in the top 10. He has all the tools to succeed on Sundays: balance, strength, and agility.

2. Dexter McCluster, RB/WR, Ole Miss
Kevin Faulk-esque player that can do it all. Good runner and great receiver, both coming out of the backfield and lining up out wide. Will be a 3rd round steal.

3. Greg Hardy, DE/OLB, Ole Miss
Big bull in the china shop that will be at home in the elephant position in the 3-4. Has battled injuries, that might push him out of the 1st round.

4. Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma St.
Nickel or dime back that will be drafted because of his return skills. The fact that he can be a 4th or 5th corner on a team is merely gravy. Will warrant a 3rd or 4th round pick. UPDATE: Cox will not play due to breaking a team rule.

NFL Draft Homework: Papajohns Bowl

Friday, January 1st, 2010

South Carolina vs UCONN, January 2nd, 2:00pm, ESPN 2

Top NFL Draft Prospects for the Papajohns.com Bowl:

1. Eric Norwood, DE/OLB, South Carolina (Pictured)
Norwood’s speed and frame (6-2/252) make him very appealing to 3-4 teams in the NFL. This gamecock projects as a 3-4 OLB, but could put his hand down if asked to. Should be a late first-rounder.

2. Lindsay Witten, DE, UCONN
Under the radar currently, Witten could surprise some people with his size (6-5/260) and strength during the pre-draft workout season. Witten will be a developmental pick, probably in the 4th or 5th rounds.

NFL Draft Homework: International Bowl

Friday, January 1st, 2010

South Florida vs Northern Illinois, January 2nd, 12:00pm, ESPN 2

Top NFL Draft Prospects for the International Bowl:

1. Jason Pierre-Paul, DE/OLB, South Florida (Pictured)
Pierre-Paul is a raw talent that is still learning the intricacies of the game. He has the athleticism to play 3-4 OLB and can rush well from the 4-3 DE position. Should be a late 1st round pick.

2. George Selvie, DE/OLB, South Florida
Selvie is a great football player that struggles to maintain his weight. Probably too small to play DE in the NFL, but will have to improve his coverage skills to play 3-4 OLB. Could go anywhere from the 1st to the 4th round depending on how he does showing his versatility during Senior week and the combine.

3. Nate Allen, S, South Florida
Has the physical and play-making skills to be a 2nd round pick in the draft, but his consistency and awareness will have to improve if he wants to excel in the NFL. Look for Allen to be picked in the 3rd round.
