2010 Senior Bowl: Tuesday North Practice Notes

Practice Notes from Tuesday’s Senior Bowl practice for NFL Draft Prospects:

South Practice

Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan
Absolutely flew by Vlad Ducasse (OL, Umass) with his quickness, but got caught by Vlad the second time around. Used his hands well against Zane Beadles (OL, Utah), getting to the QB with a great spin-move. Impressive motor.

Austen Lane, DE/OLB, Murray State
Beat Ed Wang (OL, Virginia Tech) on an inside move then got good penetration with his great bull-rush. Explosive first step.

Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers
Showed good anticipation of routes although he couldn’t haul in the ball a couple of times. Jumped Jacoby Ford’s (WR, Clemson) with ease. Mardy Gilyard (WR, Cinci) used his hands effectively against McCourty and got open.

Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
Got beat by a good route by Taylor Price (WR, Ohio), but played great press against Danario Alexander (WR, Missouri), nearly getting the pick. Very physical corner.

Jacoby Ford, WR, Clemson
Initially beat Brandon Ghee (CB, Wake Forest) but couldn’t pull away, as Ghee broke the pass up.

Syd’Quan Thompson, CB, Cal
Got burned by Gilyard deep, but broke up a couple of underneath routes. Syd is showing that he will need safety help.

Vlad Ducasse, OG, UMass
Ducasse got beat early and often, showing poor footwork. If he caught a guy, he would win, but needs a better first step.

Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho
Was a force in pass-protect drills, stoning his man on multiple occasions including two pancakes on De’Anthony Smith (DL, La Tech). Not great at left tackle against Alex Carrington (DE, A-State), who got Iupati off balance. Great hands and strength.

Matt Tennant, OC, Boston College
Should good hands and a vicious first punch that allowed him to re-anchor and hold his man off.

Regarding Thompson: Could it be the ankle? Is he limping in any of these practices?
