NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

Round 1Round 2

65. St. Louis Rams
Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cinci
Gilyard contributes in two phases of the game: giving the Rams an explosive target, along with instantly upgrading the Rams special teams.

66. Detroit Lions
Rejus Benn, WR, Illinois
The Lions need targets. Benn is highly talented, but his production is a bit of concern, as well as his ability to pick up a pro system.

67. Tampa Bay Bucs
Dexter McCluster, RB/WR, Ole Miss
McCluster adds another talented weapon that can do just about everything on the field.

68. The Washington Redskins forfeited their 3rd Round Pick by using it in the Supplemental Draft.

68. Kansas City Chiefs
AJ Edds, LB, Iowa
Another tough, strong, and fast Iowa linebacker in the Chad Greenway mold. Not quite as good in coverage as Greenway, but has solid technique.

69. Oakland Raiders
Matt Tennant, C, Boston College
Tennant is a solid communicator and technician, and would instantly upgrade a suspect line.

70. Philadelphia (SEA)
Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa
Under the radar talent that would lock down one side of the field and can really bring the wood in run support.

71. Cleveland Browns
Koa Misi, DE/OLB, Utah
Incredibly versatile defender that could end up playing inside for the Browns. Great strength and motor.

72. Buffalo Bills
Linval Joseph, DL, East Carolina
The Bills need a big DL to clog up the middle. Joseph, who is coming late to the NFL Draft party, is quickly rising up boards. Could end up in round 2 when all is said and done.

73. Miami Dolphins
Reshad Jones, S, Georgia
Jones will instantly upgrade the DB play in Miami. Rangy ballhawk that can make plays in the running game as well.

74. Jacksonville Jaguars
Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU
Talented receiving TE that has tons of talent. Dallas Clark type of player that will throw an occasional block.

75. Chicago Bears
Cam Thomas, DL, North Carolina
The Bears love picking solid d-linemen and Cam Thomas has the ability to really clog it up inside.

76. NY Giants
Ben Tate, RB, Auburn
Maybe Tate can channel the Brandon Jacobs from 2007/2008, because Brandon Jacobs version 2009 isn’t cutting it.

77. Tennessee Titans
Dorin Dickerson, TE/WR/HB, Pitt
Athletic Tight End that should be able to replace Alge Crumpler.

78. Carolina Panthers
Dan Lefevour, QB, Central Michigan
Lefevour is a smart kid that has all the NFL throws. He has decent mobility and more upside than the known quantity that are the Panther QB’s.

79. San Francisco 49ers
Dominique Franks, CB, Oklahoma
Franks provides some solid CB depth. Not a big playmaker, but is a solid technician.

80. Denver Broncos
Lamarr Houston, DL, Texas
Versatile lineman that can play inside and out. Can stay stout against the run while penetrating into the backfield.

81. Houston Texans
Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State
Incredible physical talent that needs to refine his technique to be successful in the NFL.

82. Pittsburgh Steelers
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB, IUP
Incredible talent, but hard to get a good read on his ability with limited quality tape. Could go much higher.

83. Atlanta Falcons
Brandon Ghee, CB, Wake Forest
Incredible speed but doesn’t have the feet to be an elite corner in the NFL yet. After tuning up his technique, look out.

84. Cinci Bengals
John Jerry, OG, Ole Miss
The Bengals could get a bit more physical on the inside of their O-Line. Jerry is a big, strong, man.

85. Cleveland Browns (NWE/OAK)
Jordan Shipley, WR, Texas
Someone needs to form a combination with Josh Cribbs. Shipley could be that guy. Mangini will love this guy’s consistency.

86. Green Bay Packers
Kam Chancellor, S, Virginia Tech
Physical safety that loves to deliver the blow and create turnovers. Should fill a physical void in the Packers safety corps.

87. Philadelphia Eagles
Eric Norwood, DE/OLB/SILB, South Carolina
Solid pickup with low floor and high ceiling. Could be a man without a position.

88. Arizona Cardinals (BAL)
Brandon Lafell, WR, LSU
Good size and decent route-running complement Lafell’s streaky hands. Matt Leinart will love having this big target available.

89. Arizona Cardinals
Jimmy Graham, TE, Miami
The Cardinals have a few decent TE’s, but none with the receiving ability of this Hurricane. Had a GREAT pro-day.

90. Dallas Cowboys
Austen Lane, DE, Murray St.
Cowboys continue to get fast and strong on defense with this quick DE/OLB that has the athleticism of a young Demarcus Ware.

91. San Diego Chargers
Joe Webb, QB/WR, UAB
Incredible athlete that just gains yards.

92. Cleveland Browns (NYJ)
Myron Rolle, S, Florida State
Smart athletic safety that will fit in well with Mangini’s defense. Should continue to develop during his return to football.

93. Minnesota Vikings
Anthony Dixon, RB, Ole Miss
Powerful runner to complement some guy named Adrian Peterson. Great short-yardage runner with sure hands.

94. Indianapolis Colts
Tony Pike, QB, Cincinnati
Quality post-season showing teams that he has the skills to be an NFL starter.

95. New Orleans Saints
Larry Asante, S, Nebraska
Solid safety that will try to fill the huge shoes of one Darren Shaper, not an easy task.

96. Cinci Bengals
Taylor Price, WR, Ohio
Up and down player that has all the talent in the world. If Terrell Owens isn’t in the cards, Price would be a great addition.

97. Tennessee Titans
Thaddeus Gibson, OLB, Ohio State
Quickly rising up draft boards after solid workouts.

98. Atlanta Falcons
Clay Harbor, TE, Missouri State
TE that is shooting up draft boards with his solid athleticism.

Why do you have the Niners taking a DE in the first round who can not play in the 3-4? It isn’t going to happen. You also do not have them taking an OL in the first three rounds.

  2. Anonymous says:

eagles go the first 3 rounds without taking a safety? dexter mccluster in the 2nd round? no way. eagles will go defensive early no doubt about it.

  3. Anonymous says:

Not a bad mock but as an Eagles fan I’m hoping that they go defense before the third.

  4. Anonymous says:

I am a Browns fan and I would have to say that I would love to see this actually happen with Joe Haden in the 1st round, Golden Tate in the 2rd round, Dont really know much about Geno Atkins with the first 3rd round pick. I would have prefered a tight end, middle linebacker, or another cornerback instead like Javier Arenas. Love the second 3rd round pick with Joe McKnight. Also the two 5th round picks with the Miami Hurricanes freak athlete at tight end and Thadeus Gibson from Ohio State at linebacker.

  5. Anonymous says:

There is no way the Ravens will take LaFell in the first round if Brian Price and Brandon Graham are still on the board. The Ravens always take best player available, and LaFell would be a huge reach at that point. Yes, they need a WR, but would be able to pick up a solid one in the 2nd round.

tim tebow could be a steal remeber kurt warner was undrafed went to arena football and got good and now he a favorite for hall of fame when it is his time. not saying that Tim Tebow is that type of player but u never know

  7. Anonymous says:

seahawks need to select a a quarterback right away to be sure that they get the qb they want hassleback isn’t getting younger so they are in search of a franchise qb. that would be a good move to draft qb first whether it is sam Bradford or anothe qb

  8. Anonymous says:

when was this thing written the saints i can understand taking a CB at some point because i believe that Jenkins would slid over to saftey eventually and with that happening the safety position is out of the qeustion with FS-Jenkins/Young(RFA) and SS-Harper(RFA),Vaughn,Reis holding S spots down. Most deff. guard/tackle wouldn”t come into play until the 5th round at the earliest. More pressing needs in order would be NT,OLB,PR LDE,C,QB,CB,G,TE,T. I Believe we have the best Guard tandem in the NFL

Bills taking a Running Back in Round #2 is not realistic. They need OT help and LB along with #2WR with T.O. leaving town. If Golden Tate is on the board in Round #2 Bills make pick him . Can get RB in later round to back up Fred Jackson if the Bills send degenerate Marshawn Lynch on his way out of town.

  10. Anonymous says:

If TE Rob Gronkowski is still on the board when Buffalo Bills select in Round # 3
Bills need a TE and he is a local guy…Born in Buffalo.

The Steelers will pick 3 offensive players with their first three picks? They have needs at CB, FS, ILB, and NT that should be addressed. I have no problem with the individual players, but I think you are ignoring what ails the team.

dallas cowboys 2010 super bowl champs patriots suck with randy dandy moss old tall bum like 57 years old betta luc next year ROMO’s WORLD

  13. Jarrod Rollins says:

Not a bad draft for the Raiders. Shocking considering this is a Patriots site. However based off how you have the guys going this is the draft I’d love to see for Oakland:
    1. MLB Rolando McClain
    2. OT Trent Williams
    3. OG Jon Asamoah
    3. QB Jevan Snead or best available DT
The Snead pick is very interesting to me. I wouldn’t rule out maybe drafting QB Dan LaFevour in the later rounds. He could just be the product of a spread offense, but I’d still like to see what he’s got at the pro level… Also, glad to see that you aren’t overlooking my boy RB Ryan Mathews…

  14. Anonymous says:

Texans take 2 running backs in the first 3 rounds??????

  15. Anonymous says:

Some insight from a Steelers fan for later mocks: I don’t think there is any way they go the first three rounds without picking secondary. William Gay wasn’t ready for prime time, Deshea Townsend has to retire some day, and nobody is really sure what Keenan Lewis or Joe Burnett is. Safety is even a bigger problem: Ryan Clark is a free agent, Tyronne Carter is on his last legs, and Ryan Mundy hasn’t shown himself as a future answer. So while DE certainly makes sense (WR will depend on whether they think Limas Sweed will make the patented 3rd year jump for WRs), secondary will also be there as may NT (which will be an automatic first or free agent target if they don’t franchise Casey Hampton).

  16. Anonymous says:

I like who you chose from the rams, very solid picks. with those and a few key offseason selections they could be a lot better than last year to say the least.

  17. Anonymous says:

solid mock… i dont think dwyer falls to 3rd round nor do I think clausen gets past redskins

  18. Anonymous says:

Thats the best Chiefs draft I’ve seen yet, hope it falls that way

  19. Anonymous says:

Why arent the seahawks taking Clausen!

  20. Anonymous says:

I too like the mock overall. Does show some thought went into it and not just off the cuff. As a Browns fan, I can only hope that the first 2 rounds shake out that well. I can’t see Warren sliding that far. As far as the 3rd goes I think that with James Davis coming back from his shoulder injury will keep them from drafting a RB that high. Would rather see a S like Allen or Ward or WR like Williams Gilyard or Briscoe there. But all and all great mock.

  21. Anonymous says:

As a Broncos fan I will only comment on their selections. I like the idea of McClain on the inside paired with DJ Williams for the next 4-5 years. That being said, with the Brandon Marshall debacle and the fact that the Broncos offense was anemic this year, I dont see them going defense in both the first and second rounds. I see them going after one of the top receivers on the board in the 2nd round and then address either the defensive or offensive interior in the 3rd. However, if the draft unfolded the way you think, nobody in Broncos Country would be disapointed especially with Gilyard returning kicks and McClain netting 100 tackles a year for the next decade.

  22. Anonymous says:

i really cant see a defensive mined coach, spags, passing on on of the most electrifying defensive prospects to come out in years. Yes they need a QB but any good coach knows you need to solidify both lines to have a chance in this league.
As a giant fan i dont agree with your first round pick.Earl thomas or brandon spikes is my guess. Our De’s had a poor season but tuck was hurt all season and osi is just coming off major knee surgery. Add to that we have a DC who doesnt know what he is doing and i think our Dline is better than it looked.

  23. Anonymous says:

No way in hell does seattle take a QB at 6 wont happen.

  24. Stephen says:

CJ Spiller will be early in the first round, atleast before Jahvid Best. Plus Tim Tebow has the NFL potential and I can see him going to the Jags, mostly to establish the fan base to fill their seats, but also because they need a good QB Garrard is not good anymore. As for the second round because I am a Redskins fan I do not see them getting a QB. If Carlos Rodgers goes to free agency and if dumb Dan Schnieder doesnt pick up a CB then that will probably be their 2nd round pick. That or a HB to be behind Portis if he gets back to himself. I would like to see Best or Dwyer on that draft board for the Skins next year second round!

  25. Anonymous says:

Tebow in the 3rd? Carolin ahas good DE’s after picking up Jouis Leonard and Tyler, and with Kemoeatu comaing back we should be set. They need a QBto compete and groom. Tebow is gone in the 2nd to Carolina.

  26. Chris says:

God awful Cowboys mock. Also, I always question a mock when the author lets his fandom show and players start slipping down to his favorite team.

  27. Anonymous says:

In the three rounds posted here you have the Steelers taking 3 offensive people. Look at the age of their defense. They have to go with some defensive people regardless of their offensive line woes.

  29. Anonymous says:

Really enjoyed the mock. As a Rams fan, I really like the idea of Suh in the first and McCoy in the second.Although, in the third they almost have to get a DE. Good job.

  30. Anonymous says:

Bulaga, Clayborn and Speivey will be GREAT NFL if they decide to declare

  31. Mike J says:

Nice mocker overall, shows some effort. I am a Bucs fan & dont think they will take a LB high. I’d like them to get Gerhart as Ward & Wms. are both finesse runners, but they need a corner badly, maybe two, in this draft, along with a WR or two. They may opt for a DE in the middle rounds; depends on whether they resign Wilkerson.

Suh is a future All Pro, whoever gets him.
