With the 58th Pick…

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

The Patriots have selected Sebastian Vollmer, offensive lineman, from Houston. “Seabass”, as he is known, is a huge guy (6’7″/320) that can develop into a starting tackle for the Patriots a year or two down the road. Perhaps he can be the Dirk Nowitzki of the NFL, as Vollmer is a native German.

The Patriots have selected Darius Butler, CB, from UConn. Darius has great feet and fluid hips, although his tackling is a bit suspect. Expect Darius to contribute as a nickel back during the 2009 season.

With the 40th Pick…

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

The Patriots have selected DL Ron Brace from Boston College with the 40th Pick. Brace is a load in the middle a la Vince Wilfork, and provides some leverage for the upcoming contract negotiations with #75.

In a conference call earlier tonight, Brace expressed joy at being a guy from Springfield playing for the Patriots. Brace stated that he is ready to work on his entire game to get ready for the Patriots challenging defensive scheme.

The Patriots sent #47, #124, and #199 to the Raiders for pick #40

With the 34th Pick…

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

The Patriots have selected Patrick Chung, Safety, from Oregon. Chung is a big hitter in the mold of Rodney Harrison. Patrick will need a bit of polishing in his coverage, but should excel in the hybrid safety position to start with.

In a conference call earlier tonight Chung stated that the Patriots showed “lots of interest” during the draft process and that he felt like played like Bob Sanders. He stated that his best traits were tackling and leadership.

Having traded down twice, the Patriots finally found some value with the second pick of the second round.
