The Patriots have traded veteran CB Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Patriots will receive two 5th round picks (#137 and #141) as compensation.
While Hobbs has been OK as a starting corner, he struggles against taller receivers and in the red zone. With Leigh Bodden, Shawn Springs, Terrence Wheatley, Jonathan Wilhite, and the newly acquired Darius Butler in the fold, Bill Belichick obviously felt that Hobbs was expendable.
With the trade, the Patriots have cleared $2.2 million in Salary Cap space.
Reiss’ Pieces has some great reaction from the man himself: Ellis Hobbs called the trade “shocking”. Like What You Read? – Subscribe to NE Patriots Draft!

Due to this the Eagles have enough depth at corner to trade Sheldon Brown.
Have to agree with you… Ellis Hobbs was an okay player, but doesn’t fit anymore — especially for $2.5 million
We liked Ellis Hobbs, but this is a good trade for the Patriots salary cap.
