Patriots Acquire Greg Lewis; Shawn Springs

The wheeling and dealing continue in Foxboro, even though Scott Pioli is long gone. Today, the Patriots have sent a 2009 5th round draft pick to Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Greg Lewis and a 2010 undisclosed draft pick.

Lewis should vie for the 3rd wide receiver vacated by Jabar Gaffney who left for greener pastures in Denver. One of Lewis’ more memorable games came against the Patriots during the Super Bowl, as he caught a late TD that tightened the game.

Many fans may look at his paltry statistics in Philadelphia the last few years, but if you look at the time he had TO with him, things look a little better. It’s tough to be a #1 or a #2 when you aren’t that guy.

According to Reiss’ Pieces, Lewis’ contract is an absolute gem. He will not count over $1 million dollars against the cap in any of the three remaining years on his contract.

Shawn Springs also appears to be ready to sign, although the two sides are still working on a contract. The veteran corner played for the Washington Redskins in 2008.
