NFL Beatpaths: Week 12 Graph

2008-12-nfl-clean

The Week 12 Beatpath graph is out and it's no surprise that two teams from New York are at the top.

It's also no surprise that the AFC and NFC West are found way down at the bottom of the graph, with the lone exception beating the Arizona Cardinals.

The Patriots have a few beatwins, but they can really move up the chart with a win over the Steelers.  Neither team has a beatpath to the other, but the Steelers will be favored.

A newish wrinkle at Beatpaths.com is their pick confidence ratings, with some astounding results.  Make sure you check it out.

Patriots vs Dolphins: Three Up, Three Down

Three Up
Randy Moss and Wes Welker - Season highs for these two as they tear up the Dolphins secondary.

Matt Cassel- He's really in the zone right now. Without a couple of bad TO's that weren't his fault, he could have put up 50+.

Matt Light- You shut up Joey Porter, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Three Down
Matt Light- We like the aggression, but the Patriots need you against the Steelers.

Joey Porter's Mouth- Got you in a little bit of trouble this time didn't it?

Joey Porter's Play
- Two Penalties and one tackle. That doesn't look good Joe Joe.

Patriots Compensatory Draft Picks

Following some really good discussion at PatsFans.com and Adam's NFL Site, we feel confident in projecting that the Patriots will receive the following compensatory draft picks in 2009.

3rd Round Compensatory Pick - From Asante Samuel
Samuel's $9 million average salary easily qualifies for a 3rd Rounder.

4th Round Compensatory Pick
- From Donte Stallworth
Stallworth's $5 million average salary is on the border of a 4th or 5th Rounder.

6th Round Compensatory Pick - From Randall Gay
Gay's $3 million average salary puts him on the border of a 5th or 6th Rounder.

Adding these picks to our current stock of 3 first day picks (including San Diego's 2nd Rounder) should allow us to get younger at certain positions while giving us ammunition to move around. These compensatory picks can't be traded, but they would allow us to trade other picks to move up or to stockpile picks for next year.

NFL Beatpaths: Week 11

Beatpaths.com is back at it again with another great graph detailing their Alternative NFL Power Rankings.

The Jets, Titans, and Panthers are easily the highest ranked teams according to the graph, as they have beatpaths to nearly all the other NFL teams at this point in the season. Things should change after the Jets and Titans face off.

Look for the Patriots to move up in the rankings with a win over the Dolphins, and the Broncos could move up quite a bit if they tie up the season series with the lowly Kansas City chiefs.

NRA Protesting Treatment of Favre by Jets

Brett Favre GunslingerNever Again?

The treatment of Brett Favre by Coach Eric Mangini and the New York Jets organization has gone over the line, according to NRA President John C. Sigler. "We have had the right to bear arms for over 200 years, and I'll be damned if we're going to sit idly by and watch this classless organization walk all over the 2nd Amendment," stated Sigler at a Friday morning press conference, following the Jets 34-31 overtime victory over the New England Patriots.

In public, Mangini has only commented on Favre's poor blackjack play, briefly commenting "You talk through it. You just stress, don’t hit on 20, like, sometimes, it’s OK to stay and see what the dealer has." Behind closed doors however, The NRA contends that Mangini has used his authority to deny Favre the right to own and use firearms.

Against the Patriots, Favre didn't sling a single gun all night, leading some to believe that Favre has agreed to the situation. Sigler however, won't be buying in to Mangini's plan anytime soon. "We will still sling guns from our cold, dead, hands -- in Green Bay anyway."

Brett Favre was unavailable for comment.

Patriots vs Jets: Three Up, Three Down

After watching that entertaining, but heart-wrenching game, I can really see the Patriots in the Super Bowl or watching the playoffs from home.

Three Up
Randy Moss- Even before his amazing last-second catch, Moss was working his butt off blocking and trying to get open.

Matt Cassel- An amazing game for Cassel, I only wish we could have seen him touch the ball in OT.

Jerod Mayo- One word: BEAST.

Three Down
Injuries- Not an excuse, but really, this is getting ridiculous.

Ben Watson- Hold on to the football Benjamin.

Dan Koppen
- What happened to the pro-bowl center from the first 18 games last year? A 23-yard loss and numerous missed blocks on Kris Jenkins didn't look good.

NFL Beatpaths: Week 10

Once again, we have a very vertical graph coming to us from beatpaths.com, which shows how crazy this season has been.

You have the Jets looking down at almost everyone, even though they still aren't considered a top-tier team, while the rest of the AFC East is chilling out down near the bottom the graph.

Many of the Patriots beatwins have been beatlooped away, although a win over the Jets on Thursday would add some new ones for the boys from Foxboro.

Patriots Week 10: Three Up, Three Down

Three Up
Offensive Line- Another great game for the o-line. Stephen Neal really has seemed to bring everything together.

Ellis Hobbs- Another big pick for Ellis and he did a great job on Lee Evans.

Jerod Mayo- Looks like he is comfortable with his responsibilities now, and is starting to make plays.

Three Down
Stephen Gostkowski- A rare miss gets Ghost on the list, although he is having a pro-bowl year.

Pierre Woods- Asked to step in for Adalius Thomas, Woods failed to finish a few tackles.

NFL Draft Stock Report: 9.0

Stock Rising - Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky
This guy is having a great season for a mediocre team. He seems to be able to shut down about any WR at this point.

Stock Rising - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
This Sooner has great arm strength, great accuracy, and most of all, great awareness.

Stock Rising - Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma St.
You already knew about the Texas Tech guys, but this Cowboy had a good day as well, showcasing the full set of TE skills.

Stock Falling - Mark Sanchez, QB, USC
Meh. After an amazing start, Sanchez and the USC offense has sputtered as of late.

Adalius Thomas Injury Update

According to team sources, confirmed by FOX 25 in Boston, Adalius Thomas has a broken arm that will require surgery. This injury will end the 2008 season for the Patriots outside linebacker, as he will be placed on IR.

Pierre Woods, who filled in for Thomas after the second quarter, should see extended action in the coming weeks. Woods has shown promise at times during his career, but has a tendency to miss tackles.

Vincent Redd, an UDFA from Liberty, seems to be the logical choice to get called up from the practice squad. Roosevelt Colvin and Junior Seau could also be on the short list to get calls from the Patriots this week.

Should the Pats Sign DeAngelo Hall?

DeAngelo Hall a Patriot?
UPDATE: DeAngelo Hall will sign with the Redskins.

According to NFL.com, DeAngelo Hall is expected to sign a deal within the next 48 hours with either the New York Giants, the Washington Redskins, the New England Patriots, or the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hall, the former top-ten pick of the Atlanta Falcons, has had an awful year in Oakland where he has struggled to cover man-to-man opposite of Nnamdi Asomugha. Raiders officials, after giving up a 2nd round draft pick to the Falcons, finally let DeAngelo go after eight games.

Perhaps New England's zone scheme can mask some of Hall's deficiencies, while providing him opportunities to jump routes and make big plays. Our deep safeties can provide over the top help that the Raiders didn't. Another risk-taker excelled doing just that for the Patriots the last few years, before moving on to Philadelphia.

Even though that at only 25 years of age, Hall has time to be groomed in Belichick's system and to regain the groove he was once in during his two pro-bowl seasons, our guess is that the Patriots will pass on Hall.

In releated news, the Patriots signed CB Jason Webster to replace the roster spot when Shawn Crable went to IR.

NFL Beatpaths: Week 9

The graph is extremely vertical this week, seeming to indicate that there is a more clear cut hierarchy forming in the NFL

That would be contrary to my view, as I feel like the difference between team 16 and team 1 isn't very great.

Both western divisions are very sad, with only the Cardinals ranking high in the system. However, their win over the Cowboys keeps getting weaker and weaker as they Cowboys keep losing.

Saved By Zero

Saved by Zero
This commercial has gone too far. Writing this sentence 45 minutes into Monday Night Football, this monstrosity has been played at least 4 times already. It might be more, but I blacked out for a moment after punching my ears. If I owned a Toyota, I would light it on fire.

Saved By Zero is so bad, that it already has its own facebook group bent on the commercial's destruction.

This is Our Country
Not only was this commercial annoying, but it went on for over two years, with many different variations mauling viewers from coast to coast. If I ever see John Cougar Mellencamp, I will pick him up and drop him.

What other commercial annoys the heck out of you? If you leave a comment, I will find it and add it here.

Patriots Week 9: Three Up, Three Down

The Patriots 18-15 loss to the Indiapolis Colts was a tough thing to stomach for Patriots fans. Here are some players that helped and some that hurt our cause.

Three Up
Offensive Line- The gameplan got the ball out quick, but no sacks and good holes for BJGE and Kevin Faulk show that the O-Line stepped up big.

Brandon Meriweather- Meriweather was just a split-second off from breaking up multiple passes, and really layed the wood while tackling.

Defensive Rookies- Mayo, Guyton, Wilhite, and Wheatley all played well when called upon.

Three Down
Coaching- The first game that I can remember Belichick making multiple errors, although hindsight is 20/20.

David Thomas- I hate to criticize him for finishing a block, but you have to be smarter than that.

Jabar Gaffney
- Next time, try holding on to the ball before attempting to kick the extra-point.

NFL Draft Stock Report 8.0

Stock Rising- Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech
System or no system, Harrell is showing that he deserves to be drafted on day one of the NFL Draft.

Stock Rising- Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Perhaps proved some doubters by leading efficient touchdown drives all day against the bulldogs. Showed a pro-arm for the first time this year against a top-notch opponent.

Stock Rising- Connor Barwin, DE, Cincinatti
Leading his team in sacks with 7, Barwin also did the whole Mike Vrabel thing, catching a short-yardage TD from the TE position against USF.

Stock Falling- Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia
Terrible game against the Gators, where Stafford showed some trouble handling pressure.
