NFL: Where Are They Now?

In between the NBA Finals and the start of NFL training camp is a good time to catch up with old friends and acquaintances. There are always those guys that captivate the world for a week, a month, or a year, and then they are gone. Here is a quick update on what these former NFL players are up to now.

Peter Warrick - After spending some disappointing years with the Bengals and other NFL temas, Warrick made his way to the Las Vegas Gladiators of the AFL. He then moved up north and signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, who have now released him. He now owns an Applebees.

David Boston
- The poster child for not bulking up too much signed with the Toronto Argonauts after not finding a contractin the NFL. He caught two receptions for 16 yards in his first game before opting for season-ending surgery on his foot.

Ahmad Carroll - One of the worst cornerbacks ever, Carroll was signed as a restricted free-agent by the Jaguars after some disappointing years with the Packers. The Jags released him after some run-ins with the law, and he now gets lit up playing for the AFL's Orlando Predators.

Brad Banks - The runner-up to Carson Palmer in Heisman balloting didn't get drafted after his incredible senior season with the Iowa Hawkeyes. He signed with the Redskins briefly, before kicking around the CFL with three different teams, most recently the Montreal Alouettes.

Onterrio Smith
- Famous for making the Whizzinator famous, he has been out of football since 2005. He signed briefly with the Winnipeg Bombers of the CFL in 2006 but only lasted three days. Smith was arrested on DUI and other charges this May.

Tony Mandarich
- Mandarich is having fun. He currently runs the Mandarich Photography Studio, which is part of the Mandarich Media Group. Watch for the Mullet Channel coming to a satellite dish near you.

Ryan Leaf - While due to his status as the biggest bust ever Leaf hasn't exactly been out of the media spotlight, he is leading a productive life. He is currently the QB coach for West Texas A&M (Div. II).

OJ Mayo's NBA All-Food Team

Check out the NFL All-Food Team as well!

As OJ Mayo has now made his way on to the Memphis Grizzlies, the jokes about his name have already started. The Grizzlies' practices have already been called the "Mayo Clinic" and if OJ ever makes a last-second shot, I'm sure there will be a "Miracle Whip" headline or two.

OJ now joins these fine players to make up the NBA All-Food Team:

Starters
PG - Kyle Lowry - Memphis - Lowry's salt tastes great on steak.
SG - OJ Mayo - Memphis - Let's lay off the OJ jokes for now.
SF - Brandon Bass - Dallas - If he was Chilean, he would be a delicacy.
PF - Brian Cook - Orlando - He really brings the whole team together.
C - Eddy Curry - New York - Spicy.

Reserves
PG - Fat Lever - Retired - He likes this team too much.
SG - Von Wafer - Portland - We like the strawberry ones best.
SG - Morris Almond - Utah - He's very healthy.
PF - Carlos Boozer - Utah - I guess it's more of a drink...
C - Manute Bol - Retired - I'd take a bowl of something.

Feel free to add any additions to the NBA All-Food Team in the comments below!

AFC East Predictions

Catch up: NFC West / AFC West / NFC North

AFC North / NFC South / AFC South / NFC East

New England Patriots
Projected Record: 16-0 (I tried to not be a homer and put down 15-1, but really, but how is this year's team worse than last year?)

What Needs to Happen: The Patriots really just need to continue doing what they were doing last year. New parts like Mayo, Hobson, Wheatley and Crable need to be integrated well, and the rookies in that bunch need to learn quickly.

What Needs to Not: Injuries and age can't catch up to the Patriots. Some of the key cogs (Moss, Vrabel, Bruschi, Harrison etc...) are getting older while many have injury concerns. "Next man in" is their mantra, but they can only cover so many holes, especially on defense.

Buffalo Bills
Projected Record: 7-9

What Needs to Happen: I'm not sure why the Bills aren't better. Maybe it is coaching, maybe it's a team leadership problem, but whatever it is, the Bills need to stop underachieving. I know they have had injury issues in the past, but they need to be a 53-man team. Marshawn Lynch is sick, but let's hope that his "car troubles" aren't a harbringer of what is to come.

What Needs to Not: Lee Evans can't be their only deep threat this year, while Trent Edwards can't have a sophomore slump

New York Jets
Projected Record: 3-13

What Needs to Happen: Eric Mangini needs to pick the quarterback that he wants to lose with already. The Jets will have to integrate many expensive new parts into their system, something they won't be able to do.

What Needs to Not: Regardless of whether it is due to injury or design, Chad Pennington can't be throwing passes for the Jets if they want to sniff the playoffs in 2008.

Miami Dolphins
Projected Record: 1-15

What Needs to Happen: Who freaking knows. This team got marginally better this off-season, but they still don't have a defense or a quarterback, and last time we checked those are important things.

What Needs to Not: (See 2007)

NFC East Predictions

Catch up: NFC West / AFC West / NFC North / AFC North / NFC South / AFC South

The NFC East is going to be a very good division next year, although one "star" shines a little brighter than the rest. Compared to its AFC counterpart, the NFC East might be the best conference from top to bottom, although you might be surprised who we have picked for the bottom.

Dallas Cowboys
Projected Record: 13-3

What Needs to Happen: The Cowboys just need to make some more crunchtime plays and continue to improve on defense. Integrating Pacma-errr Adam Jones and Tank Williams into the already stacked defense would make them very difficult to move the ball on.

What Needs to Not: Marion Barber can't be allowed to wear down. Felix Jones will have to show he is able to carry the ball 10-12 times a game to allow Barber to continue hurting people well into the 4th Quarter. Marion the Barbarian's run through eight patriots and the end zone to avoid a safety was the best play I saw all year.

Philadelphia Eagles
Projected Record: 10-6

What Needs to Happen: Instead of posting about trading for WR's, all the Eagles Fans on Yardbarker need to write letters to Andy Reid to just give the ball to Brian Westbrook. Lather, rinse, repeat.

What Needs to Not: McNabb can't be on the sideline sipping Chunky Soup. He alone opens up the full playbook to allow the Eagles to exploit their quick weapons.

Washington Redskins
Projected Record: 10-6

What Needs to Happen: Jason Campbell needs to deliver on the promise shown during the 2007 campaign, and Clinton Portis needs to dress up like a 1500 yard RB again, instead of Sherrif Gonna Get Ya.

What Needs to Not: The new WR's from the Draft can't play like typical rookies. The Redskins are in a good position to make a run into the playoffs, and they'll need a good stable of WR's to do it.

New York Giants
Projected Record: 8-8

What Needs to Happen: Tom Coughlin will need to pull another rabbit out of the hat, and Eli's hypnosis sessions need to continue to work. If Tuck and Osi continue to improve, they can make the playoffs again, although we are betting against it.

What Needs to Not: The Giants, who got insanely hot during the playoffs, a la the 2001 Patriots, can't do what the Patriots did that year: come back to Earth. With Strahan retiring and a few other key pieces moving on, 8-8 in this conference might seem generous.

2008 NBA Mock Draft

NBA Mock Draft Round 1
Updated 6/26 including trades

Were Listed in the DCProSports NBA Mock Draft Database

Because hey, we're Celtics fans too!

Check out our 2009 NBA Mock Draft!

1. Chicago -Derrick Rose - PG - Memphis (FR)
Rose and Del Negro will get along real well, he might be the next version of Chris Paul.

2. Miami - OJ Mayo - SG - USC (FR)
Miami will pick Mayo and trade him, but to whom and for what? I think I hear the Knicks on the phone...

3. Minnesota - Michael Beasley - SF - Kansas St. (FR)
Yeah, the T-wolves need a lot of help, but another inside presence would be a start.

4. Seattle - Jerryd Bayless - PG - Arizona (FR)
A solid pick to team up with Durant. They should be great... in Oklahoma.

5. Memphis - FR)Brook Lopez - C - Stanford (SO)
I think they will trade out of this pick, as they may be scared of Mayo and they already have a PG or six. Lopez might be tempting though.

6. New York- Danilo Gallinari - SF - Italy
Gallinari is another strong pick to follow up with David Lee.

7. LA Clippers - Nicolas Batum - SG - France
Batum is one of those guys that gets overlooked, but I don't think he will be. Aren't Euros more expensive than dollars? Sterling might think twice...

8. Milwaukee - Anthony Randolph - SF - LSU (FR)
Good range and athleticism would help the lack of both by Bogut.

9. Charlotte - Eric Gordon - SG - Indiana (FR)
A steal at nine, he can sink the shots that Wallace can't.

10. New Jersey - Robin Lopez - C - Stanford (SO)
Good rebounding and shot-blocking makes a nice compliment for the Nets at center.

11. Indiana - DeAndre Jordan - C - Texas A&M (FR)
Just as long as he can't fight.

12. Sacramento - Russell Westbrook - PG - UCLA (SO)
Can you draft a referee? The Maloofs should think about it.

13. Portland - Darrell Arthur - PF - Kansas (SO)
Yawn.

14. Golden St. - Javale McGee - C - Nevada (SO)
Seems like a Don Nelson guy.

15. Phoenix - Kosta Koufos - C - OSU (FR)
We all know they'll sell this pick anyway.

16. Philadelphia - Kevin Love - PF - UCLA (FR)
Philadelphia would love this kid. He should eat cheesesteaks during timeouts.

17. Toronto - Donte Greene - SF - Syracuse (FR)
Bosh needs a buddy and Greene, although green, could help in a year or two.

18. Washington - C. Douglas-Roberts - SF - Memphis (JR)
CDR has a good all-around game that will compliment Arenas. No word on his japanese cooking skills however.

19. Cleveland - Alexis Ajinca - C- France
20. Denver - Courtney Lee - SG - Western Kentucky (SR)
21. New Jersey - Jason Thompson - PF - Rider (SR)
22. Orlando - Joe Alexander - SF - WVU (JR)
23. Utah - Roy Hibbert - C - Georgetown (SR)
24. Seattle - Serge Ibaka - PF - Congo
25. Houston - DJ Augustin - PG - Texas (SO)
26. San Antonio - Brandon Rush - SF - Kansas (JR)
27. Portland - Kyle Weaver - SG - WSU (SR) (acquired from New Orleans)
28. Memphis - Ryan Anderson - PF - Cal (SO)
29. Detroit - Mario Chalmers - PG - Kansas (JR)
30. Boston - Bill Walker - PF - Kansas St. (SR)

AFC South Predictions

Catch up: NFC West / AFC West / NFC North / AFC North / NFC South

The conference I love to hate just keeps getting better. There are four solid QB's in the division, although two of those are on the Texans -- sorry Tennessee, VY doesn't count. Let's see how things stack up:

Indianapolis Colts
Projected Record: 12-4

What Needs to Happen: Peyton needs to stay upright. That is all.

What Needs to Not: Bob Sanders and Dwight Freeney can't be on the sideline for more than one game this year, as they make the defense much better.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Projected Record: 12-4

What Needs to Happen: David Garrard needs to continue to develop into a top-5 QB, while Fred Taylor needs to keep warding off the career Grim Reaper.

What Needs to Not: Reggie Williams can't be their #1 or #2 WR next year, as he kinda sucks, and Maurice Jones-Drew can't be their best blocker, a la Shawne Merriman last year.

Houston Texans
Projected Record: 11-5

What Needs to Happen: The young defensive core of the Texans (Williams, Ryans, Okoye) has to will the team to victory, and they will.

What Needs to Not: Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels can't be throwing 30+ passes per game, the Texans need to run the ball.

Tennessee Titans
Projected Record: 6-10

What Needs to Happen: VY needs to improve his incredibly poor accuracy. He seriously can't hit a group of shirtless men in a bar. Honestly though, his 62% isn't horrible, but it seems like he has problems hitting for first downs when it counts.

What Needs to Not: No distractions this year, but there will be plenty. I'm going with 12 DUI's in the office pool. Their stout defense can't carry them by themselves this year, they need some help, which I don't think they're going to get.

Game 1 Preview: Celtics vs NFL

After taking out the Lakers in the NBA Finals, the Celtics move on to the Intersport Finals, taking on the NFL, who swept the WNBA to reach the finals. Let's take a look at the lineups:

PG - Rajon Rondo / Ronald Curry
SG - Ray Allen / Champ Bailey
SF - Paul Pierce / Terrell Owens
PF - Kevin Garnett / Antonio Gates
C - Kendrick Perkins / Julius Peppers

The Celtics have a big advantage at the PG spot with Rondo having outstanding quickness, while the former NC player Curry has had multiple injury issues the last few years. Defensive savant Champ Bailey should be able to deny the ball from Ray Allen, who absolutely killed the Lakers, while Pierce and Owens should light the scoreboards ablaze. Gates and Peppers have their hands full dealing with Garnett, who will get the double-team quite often. Gates and Peppers will have to use their superior strength to offset Garnett's touch.

The reserves, who lit the Lakers up in the deciding Game Six of the NBA Finals, will also factor in heavily:

PG - Eddie House / Antonio Cromartie
SG - James Posey / ---
SF - Tony Allen / Tony Gonzalez / Randy Moss
PF - Leon Powe / Matt Jones
C - Glen Davis / Vince Wilfork

Cromartie needs to be able to fill in well for Bailey as a defensive stopper, as House and Posey can ignite the Celtics at a moments notice. Gonzalez, Moss, and Jones all bring great hops to bring in rebounds and each has the requisite skill to score against the Celtics. Each will be a defensive liability on the court, and with regards to Moss and Jones, don't expect any blocks at all. Wilfork and Davis should be fun to watch as they bang inside.

Coaching also will play an important role in the series. Doc Rivers has his players buying in to playing defense and putting the team before the man. Coach Mike Ditka is doing the same with the NFL'ers, although his T's are starting to wear thin on the league office. Let's hope he tones it down.

Prediction: The line is starting with the Celtics giving up 38 points. Unlike the Lakers, we think the NFL will cover.

NFL Speed-Dating

Now that the Celtics have vanquished the Lakers, we can finally begin to concentrate on what's important again: the NFL. It couldn't come a moment too soon, as those parking attendant commercials were almost as annoying as the "Our Country" truck commercials. Let's speed through ten of the most important dates to remember for the National Football League season.

1. July 22-29th - Training Camp Opens
The Texans and Dolphins start things off for us on July 22nd, and for a few weeks, football players get to live like poor college students again. We also get to have some real news to report and can forget about cameras, public financing, and arrests.

2. August 2-3rd - Hall of Fame Enshrinement and Bowl
There is a great class of players being enshrined this year, including the long overdue inclusion of Art Monk, aka the Anti-Ocho Cinco. Oh yeah, there's a game too.

3. September 7th - NFL Opening Day
Ah, Sundays in September -- it doesn't get much better. We'll be in Foxborough rooting on the Patriots versus the Chiefs courtesy of our friends at Bleacher Report, but we'll still miss the big-screen and Sunday Ticket.

4. October 17th - NFL Trade Deadline
What is usually a non-event compared to the MLB and NBA, the NFL trade deadline may start to be opened up a bit due to the possibility of CBA changes.

5. October 26th - Giants vs Chargers (Wembley Stadium, London)
Londoners get to take in the pass-happy Saints and a good San Diego team. The real question on everyone's mind though is who will they make a giant robot out of this year? If it is LT, that is going to be one classy animatronic giant.

6. November 6th - Broncos vs Browns (1st NFL Network Game)
What are the odds that the majority of fans will be able to see this game? 3-1? 5-1? It's called compromise Comcast and the NFL, look it up. Just don't involve the honorable Senator Specter please.

7. November 27th - Thanksgiving Day
Turducken? Check. Remote? Check. Pumpkin Pie? Check. Beverages? Check. Football, engage.

8. December 28th - Cedric Benson's Birthday
Should we alert the authorities now? I'm not flying anywhere for Christmas as you never know when Benson might want to go for the trifecta and get a FUI to go with his DUI and BUI.

9. January 18th - AFC/NFC Championship Games
Best day on the NFL calendar for me. Just the right amount of hype and two usually good games makes for a great experience.

10. April 24th-25th - 2009 NFL Draft
The draft's popularity is growing each year, especially after the shorter times and better times. Who knows what might be new next year. We'd still like to see more players invited to NYC, just for the awkward interviews and handshakes.

Kobe's Halftime Kisses: NFL Style

After seeing Kobe Bryant get some Father's Day love from his two girls and lovely wife during halftime of Game 5 of the NBA Finals, it got us wondering what some NFL players do during halftime. We'll leave Pacman out of this to allow the kiddies to have a read.

Tony Romo receives a kiss from Jessica Simpson, err, Jessica Simpson's dad.

Reggie Bush cuts right, then left, but never actually makes it into the locker room.

Wes Welker gets a nice pat on the head, a doggie treat, and a "Good Boy."

Roy Williams (big and slow) takes possession of a "number three with extra pickles, super-sized, with Coke to drink".

Roy Williams (tall and fast) orders a pizza, and leaves the tip for Jon Kitna, who ordered Burger King for one of his coaches.

Brett Favre puts on a new pair of Wranglers cut-offs, a la Tobias Funke. I'll admit it, I've been watching too much Arrested Development.

Rex Grossman puts a new piece of paper on the clipboard. (Week 3 version)

Chris Henry and Tank Williams get in a little target practice.

Maurice Clarett would have been getting his goose on, but instead he's, uh, well, getting his goose on.

Peyton Manning does about three mildly annoying commercials.

LT just tries to stay classy. San Diego.

Freddie Mitchell gets off the couch, uses the bathroom, and gets more chips. Typing that made me happy.

Travis Henry writes out some child-support checks.

Feel free to add your own in the comments below.

NFC South Predictions

Catch up: NFC West / AFC West / NFC North / AFC North

New Orleans Saints
Projected Record: 11-5

What Needs to Happen: Robert Meachem needs to step it up, or UFA's like Todd Blythe will be taking his job. Reggie Bush needs to not play scared.

What Needs to Not: They can't have another bad start like last year, and their emotions need to be held in check.

Tampa Bay Bucs
Projected Record: 9-7

What Needs to Happen: Cadillac Williams needs to get a tune-up and some new tires. Earnest Graham is a nice story, but he can't change gears like Williams.

What Needs to Not: Jeff Garcia and Joey Galloway can't show their age. Michael Clayton needs to show his.

Carolina Panthers
Projected Record: 7-9

What Needs to Happen: They need to be picked to finish 4-12 and have someone say they have the worst defense in the history of the world. Something needs to rile up Julius Peppers.

What Needs to Not: These perennial under-achievers need to get out of their funk by not buying into pre-season expectations.

Atlanta Falcons
Projected Record: 3-13

What Needs to Happen: The Falcons need a miracle here, in that Matt Ryan needs to develop into a top-tier QB in just a few weeks.

What Needs to Not: There can't be any distractions this year, and without Mike Vick and Bobby Petrino around, that might actually happen.

NFL Draft Prospect Viewing Guide

NE Patriots Draft: Your Source for NFL Draft Information

A chronological look at the players we selected as "Players to Watch" for the 2009 NFL Draft. Here's a hint - free up some space on your DVR and clear your schedule for October 11th.

Corey Lewis - RB - Northern Iowa
Big Game:
8/30 @ BYU

A small-school prospect from the same place that produced Kurt Warner, Lewis is a beast for the UNI Panthers. He averages nearly six yards each time he carries the rock. The combine will probably determine how high he climbs, but playing against BYU will be a great showcase for him.

Mike Mickens - CB - Cincinnati
Big Game:
Sept. 6 @ Oklahoma

Tall, but light, Mickens uses his 4.4 speed very well. He rarely takes a false step and therefore isn't out of position very often. He could play in a cover 2 or a man defense on Sundays, and his value is increased by his return abilities.

Joe Burnett - CB - Central Florida
Big Game:
Sept. 6 vs South Florida

From Asasnte's alma mater, Burnett has the potential to become a starting CB in the NFL as well. He shows good instincts in getting to the ball, and plays faster than his 4.45 speed indicates.

Fili Moala - DL - USC
Big Game:
Sept. 13 vs Ohio St.

Moala is a big disruptive force that makes it easier for those around him. We feel he can play in either the 3-4 or 4-3.

Rey Maualuga - LB - USC
Big Game:
Sept. 13 vs Ohio St.

Umm, yeah, wow. This guy hits, runs, covers, leads, and mows your lawn when he is done. Rey would be an insane addition as an OLB in any NFL defense.

Brian Cushing - LB - USC
Big Game:
Sept. 13 vs Ohio St.

Didn't get the accolades that his teammates Rivers and Maualuga received, but Cushing is a solid prospect whose versatility will bring him up into the first round. Has a few "concerns" off the field that aren't too well known.

Chris Wells - RB - OSU
Big Game:
Sept. 13 vs USC

This will be a big test for Wells. The USC defense boasts a front seven that is plainly amazing for the college ranks. He’ll earn any yards he runs for in this contest.

Alex Mack - C - California
Big Game:
Sept 13 @ Maryland

Perhaps the top center in the NCAA, Mack is a cerebral center than can make the line call and begin to maul.

Jairus Byrd - CB - Oregon
Big Game:
Sept. 13 @ Purdue

A good fit in a cover-2 system, Byrd is raw but could develop into a solid nickel/#2 corner as a rookie.

Rhett Bomar - QB - Sam Houston St.
Big Game:
Sept. 20 @ Kansas

While he isn't much of an employee, Bomar can still throw the ball pretty well. While comparisons to John Elway are obviously overblown, Bomar does exhibit the creativity with his feet and arm that NFL teams covet and offensive coordinators lose sleep over.

Darius Hill - TE - Ball St.
Big Game:
Sept. 20 @ Indiana

This guy is a YAC machine and would fit in really well with the Colts or Patriots where running good routes is valued.

Travis Beckum - TE - Wisconsin
Big Game:
Sept. 27 vs Michigan

Travis is more Kellen Winslow Jr. than Tony Gonzalez, as he isn't known as an in-line blocker. He can stretch the field and keep safeties busy though. Beckum would fit well in a spread offense in the NFL.

Lesean McCoy - RB - Pitt
Big Game:
Sept. 30 vs Iowa

"Shady" McCoy has a nose for the goal line and is big enough to handle 15+ carries per game on Sundays. He could still work on his power, but his hands and vision are very good. He would fit very well complimenting a Marion Barber or Laurence Maroney in the NFL.

Max Unger - OL - Oregon
Big Game:
Oct. 4 @ USC

Hands down the best OL in the PAC-10, Unger should have his work cut out for him vs USC. Good footwork and strength make him a solid top 25 pick.

Tim Tebow - QB - Florida
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs LSU

There isn't much that hasn't been said about Tebow. Girls love him, guys want him on their team, whether they admit it or not. Urban Meyer's golden boy should bring a new wrinkle to a more progressive offense in the NFL, although he probably wouldn't fit in too well in a traditional offense. (See Alex Smith)

Percy Harvin - WR - Florida
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs LSU

Tebow's best remaining target, Harvin is a threat on returns and reverses as well. If he can stay healthy, Harvin could easily be the first WR off the board in 2009.

Matt Stafford - QB - Georgia
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs Tennessee

Some people have Stafford as their #1 QB prospect and I can't argue with him. While not as dynamic or exciting as Tebow, Stafford is ready now for an NFL offense, with his great arm and savvy playmaking.

Brandon Spikes - LB - Florida
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs LSU

Spikes is a great leader at MLB for the Gators. He led the team in tackles and has a nose for the ball in coverage as well, averaging almost a deflection per game. His 6'3/240 size will allow him to play in the 3-4 or 4-3 on Sundays.

Duke Robinson - G - Oklahoma
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs Texas

This big 6-5/335 bruiser has been a load for the Sooners, as he notched almost 100 pancake blocks last year. His smart, mauling style would fit well in any pro offense, especially one from some team in New England.

Knowhson Moreno - RB - Georgia
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs Tennessee

It will be a tossup as to whether Moreno or "Shady" McCoy from Pitt is the first RB taken next spring, but either one will prove to be a versatile addition to any backfield.

Brian Orakpo - DE - Texas
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs Oklahoma

"Rak" is a dynamic playmaker coming off the edge. At 6-4/255, this Longhorn is best suited coming off the edge in a 4-3 and getting to the quarterback. He gets to the quarterback often, but needs to work on finishing the sack and holding up against the run.

Curtis Painter - QB - Purdue
Big Game:
Oct. 11 vs OSU

Looking to become the next Drew Brees to come out of Joe Tiller's pass-happy offense, Painter had an impressive 2007 campaign where he toned down his miscues. If he keep his TD/INT ratio high again this year, he could compete to be the first quarterback taken next year.

Tyson Jackson - DE - LSU
Big Game:
Oct. 11 @ Florida

Jackson should be a top-15 pick next year as defensive ends become more and more valuable. Tyson is a force on the outside and plays well versus the run and the pass.

Malcolm Jenkins - CB - Ohio St.
Big Game:
Oct. 18 vs Michigan

This OSU corner would have been a top-20 pick in this year's draft and should top the corner rankings in 2009. He has great speed, quickness, and ball-skills, as well as being able to recover quickly. Jenkins is a complete player.

James Laurinaitis - LB - Ohio St.
Big Game:
Oct. 18 vs Michigan

We aren't as high as most with Animal Junior, but he is a very solid prospect. We can't see him playing inside in a 3-4, as he doesn't shed blocks well at all. He is very tough to block, but when he is, he will disappear from the play. Inside in a 4-3 would be an ideal spot where a couple of massive DT's can protect him and allow him to use his athleticism to make plays.

William Moore - S - Missouri
Big Game:
Oct. 18 @ Texas

Moore is a solid safety that plays smart enough to step in on day one and contribute. His instincts are a pretty thing to watch.

Vince Oghobaase - DT - Duke
Big Game:
Oct. 18 vs Miami

Vince doesn't have good low-post moves or a sweet j, so most scouts have overlooked this Duke prospect. We feel he could provide good run support and eat some blockers on Sundays.

Pat White - QB/WR - West Virginia
Big Game:
Oct. 23 vs Auburn

White won't play QB at the next level, but offensive coordinators are already drawing up plays to use his freakish ability, a la Randle El and others from the same mold. Expect White to work out as a WR at the combine.

Michael Oher - OT - Ole Miss
Big Game:
Oct. 25 @ Arkansas

Teams at the top of the draft are always looking for a safe pick. Last year it was Jake Long, this year it will be Michael Oher, as he is easily the best OL prospect, while going up against some of the best pass-rushers in the nation.

Michael Johnson - DE - Ga. Tech
Big Game:
Oct. 25 vs Virginia

Our #1 Pick for 2009, Johnson brings explosive power and speed from the edge for the 'Wreck. We are predicting a breakout year from MJ, a la Mario Williams a few years back. He'll have a tough time here against Monroe from Virginia.

Eugene Monroe - OL - Virginia
Big Game:
Oct. 25 @ Ga. Tech

The latest product to be emerging from the First Round O-Line factory(Ferguson, Albert), Monroe brings a mean streak that shows he belongs in the same paragraph as those two players.

Michael Crabtree - WR - Texas Tech
Big Game:
Nov. 1 vs Texas

This guy just flat-out scares people. He's a big target and people just don't seem to be able to cover him or tackle him. Watch him every chance you get.

CJ Spiller - RB - Clemson
James Davis - RB - Clemson
Cullen Harper - QB - Clemson
Big Game:
Nov. 1 @ BC

These three should be fun to watch in 2008-9. Harper is a quality QB prospect that should fight to be #2 on the board, while Davis and Spiller remind us of the duo at Arkansas last year, as both could be 1st Rounders.

Mitch King - DT - Iowa
Big Game:
Nov. 8 vs Penn St.

Mitch King isn't a household name, yet. He is undersized, but his motor never stops and he just seems to make plays. He would fit well in a 4-3 defense that stunts often and has a deep rotation.

Vontae Davis - CB - Illinois
Big Game:
Nov. 15 vs OSU

Vernon's little brother jumped on the Ron Zook recruiting train and has excelled with the Illini. His great CB size while keeping the requisite speed will make his stock soar. He is still a little rough around the edges, but should continue to develop into a solid corner.

Nic Harris - S - Oklahoma
Big Game:
Nov 22 vs Texas Tech

In a similar fashion to Moore, Harris brings solid fundamentals and athleticism to the defensive backfield. He hits like a linebacker at times, but doesn't cover like one -- looking at you Roy Williams.

Sam Bradford - QB - Oklahoma
Big Game:
Nov. 29 vs Oklahoma St.

After getting the chance to step in for Rhett Bomar and others, Bradford has shown that he belongs at the highest level. He will be in a small group of QB's fighting to hear their name called in the first round next April.

Myron Rolle - S - FSU
Big Game:
Nov. 29 vs Florida

If you'd like your son to be a d-back in the NFL, it wouldn't hurt to change your last name to Rolle. This Rolle, of the Myron variety, provides smart football instincts and great speed and athleticism.

Hunter Cantwell - QB - Louisville
Big Game:
Dec. 4 @ Rutgers

Although he has played behind Brian Brohm, Cantwell's mind and arm are projected to be even better than his predecessor. He also has the size that NFL GM's covet. With the lack of tape on Cantwell, we wouldn't be surprised if he went in the top 5 or round 5.

AFC North Predictions

Catch up: NFC West / AFC West / NFC North

Similar to the NFC North, their AFC counterparts are all teams that could win 10+ games and win a playoff contest, and with the possible exception of Pittsburgh, each could go 6-10 or worse. On to what makes people yell at us:

Cleveland
Projected Record: 11-5

What Needs to Happen: This is the year that Derek Anderson needs to put 16 games in the book and take the Browns to the next level. With Edwards, Winslow, and company, we think he'll do it.

What Needs to Not:
No more crappy tiebreakers.

Pittsburgh
Projected Record: 9-7

What Needs to Happen: Mendenhall and Parker need to compliment each other well and Santonio Holmes needs to continue to improve. Hines Ward has to show he can still bring it.

What Needs to Not: Troy Polamalu can't be this team's savior. He needs the front seven to make more plays and not force him to blitz every other play.

Cincinnati
Projected Record: 6-10

What Needs to Happen: Blow it up and start over.
What Needs to Not: See 2005-2007

Baltimore
Projected Record: 5-11

What Needs to Happen: Somebody needs to step up and take the QB job by the throat and lead this team. We just don't see the guy to do it this year.

What Needs to Not: Ray Lewis can't stop delaying what must happen -- him losing a second step.

NFL Player Trade Value Index

There are many kinds of value: intrinsic, extrinsic, monetary, market to name a few. In the NFL, however, a player's true value is what someone else will trade you for said player. Here are the 40 players that we think have the highest trade value in the NFL. The following things had to be taken into consideration: production, age, contract, and position. For example, would you rather have Jason Taylor for a year or Jared Allen for seven? Thanks to the Sports Guy for the idea for this article.

Notable Omissions: Jason Taylor, Larry Johnson, Ray Lewis, Terrell Owens
Maybe Next Year: Darren McFadden, Jake Long, Brady Quinn, Cedric Benson's Lawyer

40. Reggie Bush
While there are many better players out there, due to marketing and PR issues the Saints just couldn't trade this guy unless it was an absolute gimme offer - like Mario Williams or some other defensive gamechanger. Cue Alanis Morrisette.

39. David Garrard
A year ago he wasn't even sniffing this list while sitting behind Byron Leftwich. Thanks to Jack Del Rio's decision, Garrard is firmly placed in the second tier of quarterbacks in the NFL, and should be part of the Jaguar's plans for the foreseeable future, and at a reasonable price.

38. Ed Reed
While Ray Lewis gets the majority of the accolades, Ed Reed and Haloti Ngata deserve the praise. Reed makes some mistakes when he gambles, but few people instill the fear in offensive coordinators as much as Ed Reed. Playing Safety, Reed is also a pretty good value.

37a. DJ Williams
37b. Demeco Ryans
Two of the quartet of young tackling machines (Beason, Willis), DJ was 2nd in the league last year in tackles, and excels at stopping runners behind the line, accounting for 13 "stuffs" during the 2007 season, while Demeco Ryans has been a revelation for the Texans, earning DROY honors and a pro-bowl nod.

36. Jon Beason
Beason gets the nod over Williams and Ryans due to his age, but they are very similar talent-wise. Beason has taken over for Dan Morgan as the Panthers resident tackling machine.

35. Logan Mankins
The first O-Linemen on the list, Mankins is an absolute beast for the Patriots, with a great contract to boot. Mankins has a mean streak and just seems to enjoy hitting people. Doesn't get the press, but might be better than Hutch.

34. Joseph Addai
He is the best RB in the league for the Colts offense. His friendly cap numbers help keep Peyton's people together, while his unique skill-set is the glue that holds the offense together. Any team would enjoy having a great 3-down back on their team.

33. Antonio Gates
Gates hasn't put up the incredible numbers that were once expected of him, but he is still a great TE. This spot could have been Jason Witten very easily, due to his better blocking and more consistent route-running. Tony Gonzalez may still be better than both, but he is just too old.

32. Osi Umenyiora
Ask Tom Brady and the Patriots O-Line how good this guy is. He has Strahan's talent without his age and poor work ethic. Justin Tuck and Osi will be presenting problems to opposing offenses for years.

31. Wes Welker
While he was only worth a 2nd and a 7th round draft pick to the Dolphins, I'd assume that the Patriots would ask for much more today. His 100+ catches can't quantify the disruptive effect that his underneath routes on opposing defenses.

30. LaDainian Tomlinson
You might ask why LT is so low on this list, my answer is that if he rehabbed with as much effort as he spent staying classy, he would have manned up and played the AFC Championship game like Philip Rivers. He also is about 2 years from getting the Shaun Alexander memorial fork in the back.

29. Steven Jackson
Put Steven here in the AFC Championship game last year and things would have been much closer. He is a 3-down force that when healthy is in the top three in the game. Still young with a friendly contract, the Las Vegas native is straight money.

28. Larry Fitzgerald
A sublime talent with an enormous contract, Fitzgerald would be tough to trade on both accounts. Give him a consistent QB and watch him blossom like a desert rose.

27. Shawne Merriman
He has a lot in common with Jason Taylor: he just knows how to get to the quarterback, and with his little post-play gyration, he should be on the blooper reel of "So You Think You Can Dance?"

26. Jason Peters
The undrafted former TE made his first Pro-Bowl in 2007 and should continue to perform at that high level in the future. Jason uses all 340 of his pounds well. Should be in wait for a huge contract upgrade though.

25. Asante Samuel
Think Ben Wallace. He went from underpaid and underrated to the exact opposite in two years. Asante is a great cornerback, but on other teams he will not have the same pass rush that he got while on the Patriots. Eagles fans beware.

24. Kevin Williams
Due to some Draft issues, the Vikings had to wait to pick Williams, but boy was he worth the wait. Kevin has a reasonable contract and any team wishing to bolster its run support would love to trade for him.

23. Vince Wilfork
This is one big guy. He eats blockers and keeps his linebackers nice and clean so they can run around making plays. His value doesn't show up in the box score, but ask Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau if they'd like him to be traded.

22. Antonio Cromartie
Young and perhaps underpaid, Cromartie burst onto the scene in 2007. His gambling, play-making style has made him a fan favorite. He isn't proven yet, but don't bet on the Chargers selling high with Antonio.

21. Reggie Wayne
Wayne has emerged as a top-notch receiver. On any other team he would be the clear-cut first option, but with the Colts, he barely gets noticed. Peyton knows the true value of this Miami burner.

20. Champ Bailey
Cornerbacks are key in the NFL and Champ is a proven commodity. He got beat more than he cares to admit in 2007, but Bailey still has the talent that once landed the Redskins Clinton Portis.

19. Terrence Newman
The fact that you don't hear too much about Newman says a lot about his talent. He has turned Jacque Reeves into the human target the last few years, as QB's are just plain afraid to throw in his direction. Should command a HUGE salary next year.

18. Braylon Edwards
This is Braylon. Whoever is throwing him the ball, just know that you need to throw it a longggg way. Edwards might be the most complete WR in the league, and he is still very young.

17. Jared Allen
He brought quite a haul for the Chiefs, and they now might be able to rebuild. The Vikings got the pass-rusher they needed as well. Allen's enormous contract would be imposing, but many teams would love to suit up Allen in their own colors.

16. Joe Thomas
Anyone want a cornerstone for your O-line for the next 12 years? The Browns do too. Sorry.

15. Tony Romo
He's not young, and he doesn't have a good playoff history, but Romo is the man in Big D. Jerry Jones loves stars and very few shine as bright as the Big Chicken of the Sea's golden boy.

14. Steve Hutchinson
His neck is bigger than some players' helmet. The man behind the curtain for AP, Hutch would be a hot commodity if he were on the block.

13. Patrick Willis
Every team in the NFL would line up to sign Willis, he is that good of player. A good contract and a large passion bucket make him even more attractive.

12. Philip Rivers
I can't stand this guy but he is a freaking warrior. Torn ACL? He didn't even have one! Twice as tough as his teammate LT, Rivers has galvanized his once weak in the knees Chargers team.

11. Ben Roethlisberger
Not many QB's around with rings that aren't named Manning or Brady. Big Ben captured the town and his teammates on their magical run and the Steelers brass won't let him get away.

10. Randy Moss
If he was five years younger, he'd be number three on this list. The Patriots knew what they were doing when they got him for another year or two.

9. Dwight Freeney
When healthy, Freeney commands a double-team on almost every passing play. While he doesn't get to the QB all that much anymore, he paves the way for Mathis and his friends to do the job.

8. Nnamdi Asomougha
I know it's shocking to see a Raider this high, but wow, this guy can really play. In our opinion, he is the best corner in the league and is still improving. If he had a d-line that could rush the passer, his interception total should rise.

7. DeMarcus Ware
Strong, fast, young, and talented, Ware brings the whole package to the Cowboys. As much as Bobby Carpenter has disappointed, Ware has amazed. The Troy graduate is unblockable at times.

6. Eli Manning
It was either Eli Manning or David Tyree's helmet. Sorry.

5. Bob Sanders
When Bob played at Iowa, we used to call him "Nightrain". He runs through people for fun, and if he could stay healthy, he makes the Colts a much tougher defense against the run.

4. Mario Williams
While Reggie Bush barely made this list, Mario Williams is the top defensive player on it. He's young, disruptive, and improving -- those are impressive things for the Texans DE. Amobi Okoye and Mario should be terrorizing the AFC South for the next decade.

3. Adrian Peterson
He really isn't that much better than Steven Jackson, or even Chester Taylor for that matter, but what he brings are his "ilities": Marketability, Likability, and Ability. After "Boatgate", the Vikes need all of those.

1b. Peyton Manning
1a. Tom Brady

Manning is a tad longer in the tooth than Brady, so Manning gets the "1b" treatment. Brady also has a few more rings and records than Manning has. Any team in the league would trade for one of these two, and the Colts and Patriots wouldn't even pick up the phone.

Dufresne, Party of Two

I came upon the, um, interesting website called Tin Foil On my Head, which is dedicated to stringing along the Spygate debacle with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Evidently Colin Cowherd, the "Schrutebag" who takes down Sports Blogs for fun, challenged his loyal listener(s) to create the site in response to the NFL conspiracy theories being floated around. The fact that there are websites like this springing up isn't shocking or really all that interesting. What's interesting is this little graphic found on their site:

Call off the search party guys - the Dufresnes have been found - we all knew that Coward actually did have some fans, and evidently they congregate at this aptly named site, so we can officially stop looking for them. Colin is "clearly the definition of the world class"? My god I hope these guys are playing a joke on poor Colly.

NFC North Predictions

Catch Up: NFC West / AFC West

The NFC North is one of the most intriguing conferences in the NFL. Each team has the talent to win the division and make a deep playoff run, while each team could also implode and finish 5-11. Coaching, injuries, and heart will make the difference in 2008

Minnesota Vikings
Projected Record:
10-6

What Needs to Happen: Tarvaris Jackson needs to quit losing games for Coach Brad Childress. He's got all the talent that he needs on both sides of the ball, and he is the only weak link.

What Needs to Not: See above.

Green Bay Packers
Projected Record:
10-6

What Needs to Happen: Ryan Grant needs to move the chains, while AJ Hawk and company need to get over the loss of a few linemen and stop the run. Al Harris and Charles Woodson need to be 26 again.

What Needs to Not: Packers Players, Coaches, and Fans can't expect Aaron Rodgers to be "you know who" his first day on the job. Don't put too much pressure on him -- he'll be fine.

Detroit Lions
Projected Record:
7-9

What Needs to Happen: Turning over a new offensive leaf, the Lions need to get their extremely talented passing game working well. Use the impressive height that you have at that position.

What Needs to Not: No Burger King outfits please. Don't pay lipservice to the running game, either run it or play arena ball.

Chicago Bears
Projected Record:
5-11

What Needs to Happen: Pact with the Devil? We're really not sure how to make Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman perform at the NFL level.

What Needs to Not: With Cedric Benson probably being on America's Most Wanted by training camp, the Bears can't run Matt Forte into the ground this year.

Bill Plaschke is a Tool

We at NE Patriots Draft have made it a point to keep "Spygate" where it belongs, the past, so please bear with us for a moment. We have a beef to settle:

Yo Momma!
Bringing up "Spygate" has become the Sports Media equivalent of saying "yo momma". When a media-hack can't think of something funny or insightful to say, that's what they bring up. Have a small issue like Nick Kaczur's unfortunate opiod dependence? Well, let's blow it out of proportion and link it with "Spygate". Why aren't they relating it to Brett Favre?

Tipping Point
The tipping point for us came during pre-game festivities on Sportscenter for the NBA Finals where they had Bob Ryan and Bill Plaschke on discussing the humorous bet proposal between the two mayors. Plaschke, however, became disoriented and thought he was on the set of "Around the Horn". He acted like a complete lunatic, degrading the Patriots at every chance and laying his hands on Ryan on two occasions. Ryan, staying professional, tried to redirect the conversation and thankfully (maybe) refrained from punching the utter D.B. Plaschke in the face. Talk about the Celtics and Lakers! It's the Finals of the Decade! You don't need to supplement the drama!

The Future

Can Bob Ley do something about this? Is TMQ not the most biased man on the planet as I thought? I think I'm going to start tuning in to the Best Damn Sports Show for my straight sports news and information needs.

AFC West Predictions

The AFC West is very similar to the NFC West in that there is one top-dog and three little squirrels trying to find a nut. You might be wondering why I would lump Denver in with KC and Oakland, but the reality is that the Broncos are much closer to the bottom than the top. On to the predictions:

San Diego Chargers
Projected Record:
10-6

What Needs to Happen: This team needs to stay healthy, and when they are hurt, they need to man up. I might dislike Philip Rivers, but he is a freaking warrior. LT? Not so much.

What Needs to Not: Merriman needs to quit being blown up by 5'6" running backs and sack the QB.

Denver Broncos
Projected Record:
7-9

What Needs to Happen: This ragged group of egos need to get on the same page. Brandon Marshall needs to grow into his #1 role and Shanny needs to mold his game to the game of his players.

What Needs to Not: The Broncos have been snakebitten lately: shootings, premature death, McDonalds wrappers, diabetes... They just need a normal 6 months.

Kansas City Chiefs
Projected Record:
4-12

What Needs to Happen:
Herm needs to be in a booth.

What Needs to Not: LJ can't get injured again, as the Chiefs terrible line can't do all the work itself.

Oakland Raiders
Projected Record:
4-12

What Needs to Happen: Jamarcus needs to throw for more yards than he weighs each game, and the duo of McFadden and Fargas need to play real well.

What Needs to Not: All the new faces can't play for the next contract, Lane Kiffen needs to get them all working to what really matters: keeping Lane's job.

Chad Johnson Brings World Peace

In addition to Chad Johnson deciding to return to the Bengals, there were some other interesting nuggets of news out there:

  • Palestinian and Israeli officials were seen shaking hands and heard saying, "Yeah, we were just screwin' around."
  • Roger Goodell invited Pacman Jones over for a BBQ and some strippers.
  • Dan Rather rejoined CBS.
  • Two football fans compromised, apparently Bud Light both "tastes great" and is "less filling".
  • Colin Cowherd subscribed to The Big Lead.
  • Hatfield and McCoy? "We all good."
  • Bob Barker and Happy Gilmore played a quick nine.
  • Keith Olbermann made a wry, pithy remark about a four-letter sports station that included no four-letter words.
  • Steinbrenner tried to fire Billy Martin (hell, not everything is hunky-dory)

NFC West Predictions

Well, we saved the worst for first. Other than the Seahawks, who are by no means spectacular, the NFC West is just atrocious. If they didn't get to play each other, these records would be much worse. Let's just get this overwith quickly so nobody gets hurt.

Seattle Seahawks
Projected Record:
10-6

What Needs to Happen:
Shaun Alexander's replacements need to step up and run hard, while Deion Branch needs to stay healthy. Mike Holmgren will have to coach at a high level to go out on top.

What Needs to Not: Walter Jones can't have another lazy year, and needs to reassert himself as a true Pro-Bowler. The improving defense can't let up this season.

San Francisco 49ers
Projected Record:
7-9

What Needs to Happen:Alex Smith needs to finally stay healthy and fulfill the promise of being the #1 pick, while Patrick Willis needs to continue to overperform.

What Needs to Not:Vernon Davis can't have another injury and drop plagued year, while Nate Clements needs to start dominating games, rather than just playing above average.

Arizona Cardinals
Projected Record:
7-9

What Needs to Happen: Matt Leinart and Ken Whisenhunt will need to get on the same page, both on the field and off.

What Needs to Not: Edgerrin James needs to not run like he is Shaun Alexander, and the WR's need to stop worrying about contracts.

St. Louis Rams
Projected Record:
5-11

What Needs to Happen: A whole bunch of crap.

What Needs to Not:
Steven Jackson and Orlando Pace have to play 16 games this year, while the new WR corps needs to finally step up.

NFL Firing Range

It seems like each year about 6-8 NFL Head Coaches get axed in the NFL. Some of them get fired for losing records, others for not winning "big games". Some teams just "need to go in a new direction". Let's take a look at all 32 NFL Head Coaches and their chances of getting canned in 2008.

Chuck Knoll Division

Due to their continued greatness and/or imminent departure, these guys aren't going anywhere.

Bill Belichick - New England Patriots - 1000 to 1
I can't think of a way that he gets fired and I won't even joke about it.

Tony Dungy - Indianapolis Colts - 1000 to 1
This will be his last year, and they aren't going to fire him.

Tom Coughlin - New York Giants - 1000 to 1
From the chopping block to the penthouse, Coughlin bought himself a few years of comfort.

Mike Holmgren - Seattle Seahawks - 1000 to 1
Similar to Dungy, Holmgren is done after this year and won't be fired short of an enormous scandal.

Marty Schottenheimer Division
These coaches have a fatal flaw, mainly no recent rings, and owners might get fed up. Their impressive regular-season records keep them working though.

Jeff Fisher - Tennessee Titans - 500 to 1
The longest tenured coach, Fisher eventually needs to get over the loss of Pacman and win it all.

Mike Shanahan - Denver Broncos - 500 to 1
Unless Al Davis buys the Broncos Shananhan won't be getting fired.

Jon Gruden - Tampa Bay Bucs - 500 to 1
With a ring and 12 quarterbacks, Gruden seems safe.

Jack Del Rio - Jacksonville Jaguars - 400 to 1
With a great record and non-ambitious ownership, Del Rio will be sporting suits for the forseeable future.

Wade Phillips - Dallas Cowboys - 400 to 1
Jerry's boy, Phillips just needs to make the playoffs with the best team in the NFC to keep his job.

Sean Payton - New Orleans Saints - 400 to 1
The man who brought back the Saints from oblivion is pretty safe.

Mike McCarthy - Green Bay Packers - 400 to 1
Unless Aaron Rodgers severly underperforms, McCarthy will be coaching for a while.

Lane Kiffin Division
For odd reasons, Lane isn't in this division. These guys are so new that the owners can't bail on them, probably. Although you'd have a tought time convincing Cam Cameron of that.

Mike Tomlin - Pittsburgh Steelers - 1000 to 1
The Steelers don't fire coaches. Period.

Jim Zorn - Washington Redskins - 300 to 1
Owner Dan Snyder is quite fickle, but even he won't fire a guy in his first year.

Mike Smith - Atlanta Falcons - 300 to 1
Could he do worse than Petrino? I don't think it is possible...

John Harbaugh - Baltimore Ravens - 300 to 1
Harbaugh has the arduous task of winning with a team whose window is closing.

Gary Kubiak - Houston Texans - 250 to 1
Kubiak has the Texans pointing in the right direction. Finally.

Ken Whisenhunt - Arizona Cardinals - 150 to 1
Is he who we think he is? He needs to calm Leinart down for sure.

Rod Marinelli - Detriot Lions - 120 to 1
After a great start, Marinelli needs to continue to deliver on that early promise rather than blow up like 2007.

Tony Sparano - Miami Dolphins - 120 to 1
Parcells isn't patient, but would he really toast his own guy?

Norv Turner Division
These guys have jobs, but they have a strike or two against them. A few losses in a row and they could be gone.

Andy Reid - Philadelphia Eagles - 100 to 1
Eventually Reid is going to have to win the SB with all that talent.

Romeo Crennel - Cleveland Browns - 100 to 1
One good year helped, but he isn't out of the woods yet.

Lovie Smith - Chicago Bears - 80 to 1
The SB appearance bought him some time, but another year like last year might be it.

John Fox - Carolina Panthers - 60 to 1
Nobody has a team that has underperformed as much as the Panthers these last few years.

Norv Turner - San Diego Chargers - 60 to 1
Norv was brought in to win Playoff Games, not playoff game.

Dick Jauron - Buffalo Bills - 50 to 1
Jauron is an OK coach with OK talent. That doesn't cut it in the NFL.

Brad Childress - Minnesota Vikings - 50 to 1
Vikings brass won't be patient with AP's time in Minnesota. If they don't think Childress can bring it home, they will move on.

Art Shell Division
Practice up on interviews and those résumés ready gentlemen, you're going to need the help next year.

Scott Linehan - St. Louis Rams - 20 to 1
Injuries aren't his fault, but at times he just seems lost.

Eric Mangini - New York Jets - 18 to 1
Fredo here, after a promising first year, just can't win football games.

Mike Nolan - San Francisco 49ers - 16 to 1
Everybody's sleeper pick last year, the 'niners are still really bad.

Herm Edwards - Kansas City Chiefs - 10 to 1
You play to win the game! Do it then Herm!

Lane Kiffin - Oakland Raiders - 8 to 1
Kiffin is the only coach here that could be fired even if he wins the Super Bowl, due to Al Davis being an absolute freakazoid.

Marvin Lewis - Cincinatti Bengals - 5 to 1
Loads of talent. Loads of problems. Not enough wins. ¡Ocho Cinco dice adios!

NFL Salary Cap Figures

Check out our 2009 NBA Mock Draft!
These are the Salary Cap figures for each team as of June 2nd. A few notes:

  • The Chiefs and Packers have an absurd amount of room with nobody to spend it on. Look for them to shift more 2009 money to this year.
  • The Steelers are going to need to restructure some deals to get their rookies signed.
  • The Patriots' near $10,000,000 in cap room should be enough to maintain some flexibility this year, and won't require a re-working of Brady's contract.
