Patriots vs Ravens: What we Watched For

1. Backup QB – Neither Cassel or Gutierrez had a good night. In reality, they both played pretty awful. Kevin O’Connell, however, had a good first night for New England and looks like he could be the backup of the future.

2. Crable able? – Wow. While he didn’t impress too much in practice, come game time Shawn played great. While his pick and sack were impressive, the way he blanketed prospective Ravens receivers during the night was very impressive. Put on ten pounds and we’ve got a winner there.

3. Mayo(r) – Jerod Mayo was also quite impressive, laying out a couple of Ravens during the night. His two fellow rookie linebackers, Vincent Redd and Gary Guyton, also played very well. Guyton, with his incredible special-teams play running down Baltimore’s Figurs–reminiscent of Ben Watson running down Champ Bailey–might have gotten Larry Izzo cut.

4. Return game – There weren’t any touchdowns, but you could see that Slater knows what he is doing. If he starts to trust his blockers and stay in the lanes, he will be a great addition.
