NFL Mock Draft – Picks 1-16 / NFL Mock Draft – Round 2
17. New York Jets
Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State
This would be a pretty solid pick for the Jets, so we know that I’m wrong here.
18. Denver Broncos (CHI)
Donald Brown, RB, UConn
Brown made a lot of money at the combine, cementing a first round pick with solid feet and speed. Hopefully he can put the Denver RB position back on the map.
19. Tampa Bay Bucs
Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
DHB is one fast Terrapin. Joey Galloway is wearing the Patriot colors now, so Byron Leftwich needs someone to stretch the field.
20. Detroit Lions (DAL)
William Beatty, OT, UConn
An atletic big man, Beatty provides the blocking that the Lions need to free up Stafford and company.
21. Philadelphia Eagles
Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State
With Buckhalter gone and Westbrook waning, Wells would be a great replacement and compliment.
22. Minnesota Vikings
Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
Now that the Vikes have Sage Rosenfels, Nicks would be a great guy to catch his passes and recover his fumbles.
23. New England Patriots
Robert Ayers, DE/OLB, Tennessee
Ayers can get to the quarterback, which is exactly what the Patriots need, and Volunteers have been good to the Patriots lately. Safety is an option here as well.
24. Atlanta Falcons
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
A nice little comfort blanket for Matt Ryan that happens to be able to run block like an OT as well.
25. Miami Dolphins
Brian Cushing, LB, USC
As the Broncos change to a 3-4, Cushing’s versatility will be highly valued. He is a true workout freak.
26. Baltimore Ravens
Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
With Corey Ivy and Chris McAlister gone, the Ravens need a good young CB. Smith has the swagger that suggests he would fit in just fine with Ed Reed and company.
27. Indianapolis Colts
James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
Not a 4.4 forty guy, but his lack of false steps and good instincts make him a natural fit in the Colts defense
28. Buffalo Bills
Louis Delmas, S, Western Michigan
Smart, hitter, leader. Would pair up well with Donte Whitner and the rest of the Buffalo secondary.
29. New York Giants
Rey Maualuga, LB, USC
Great linebacker prospect that hits hard and can cover as well as stop the run. Will continue to improve as a pass-rusher, but needs to get more athletic than his kicker.
30. Tennessee Titans
Aaron Maybin, DE/LB, Miami
While he didn’t have a great combine, Maybin fits the Titans scheme well and should compliment Vanden Bosch well.
31. Arizona Cardinals
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
Edge can’t do it forever, and Moreno is a back that can compliment the potent Cardinal passing game well.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers
Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina
Big Ben needs blockers, and big boy Meredith brings the skills that the Steelers need.
