Late Round Picks

Jonathan Wilhite – Wilhite is a surprise to most, but makes sense when you think about what role he will play, although it still seems a bit early. He is an extremely quick athlete that is at his best when covering slot receivers and playing a zone. He can’t cover big wideouts, nor does he cover man-to-man very well, but as a nickel/dime/special teams guy he should be just fine.

Matt Slater – Slater has played both d-back and wideout at UCLA, but he is being drafted as a replacement for Willie Andrews, who ran into some legal problems and may be released by the Patriots. Slater is an excellent kick returner (30.9 average) and should be able to keep Ellis Hobbs fresher.

Bo Ruud – Ruud is the brother of Barrett Ruud, both linebackers from Nebraska. Ruud (6’3″ / 235) is a downhill thumper that isn’t a liability in the passing game. He plays with passion and a non-stop motor. Should provide depth and excellent effort in the kicking game.
