Jake Long to the 'Fins

According to ESPN, the Dolphins have agreed to terms with Jake Long and will select him with first overall pick. This has a nice effect for the Patriots, as the chances that one of Sedrick Ellis, Glenn Dorsey, Darren McFadden, or Matt Ryan will be there have increased exponentially. Each of those four have serious interest from suitors outside the top ten, who are willing to part with first-day picks in order to grab the guy they want.

It is being widely reported that Long has signed a 5yr, 57.75 million dollar contract, with 30 million guaranteed. Many see that as a step down in compensation, as Jamarcus Russell had more total and guaranteed money. Russell’s contract was for six years however, and Long’s average figures end up higher than Russell’s. What looks like a win for the Dolphin’s front office may not turn out to be anything at all.
